Did anyone transition into vaping from smoking RYO tobacco?

I was an RYO smoker for about 3 years. I smoked Good Stuff full flavor menthol in Zen menthol tubes. I found Dekang Triple Menthol 24mg flavored juice with NicQuid Added Burst drops added to come very close to the taste of my RYO smokes. I started vaping 5 months ago and haven't gone back to the RYO analogs since!

RYO'er for 6 years.... Whatever tobacco was the cheapest. The only thing I miss since vaping is the ritual of rolling. Started off with 24mg and am now down to 18mg......... Couldn't be any happier with my decision to switch.

Really like RY4 Double which I mix myself (cause I'm so bloody cheap that I don't want to pay B&M prices).

Wow everyone, thanks for all the fantastic suggestions! I really appreciate it. I'm gonna read through this thread several times to make sure I didn't miss anything.

One thing that's for sure, is I don't like sweet flavors. I have been trying and trying my hardest to enjoy Tribeca, but I just can't. It's too sweet and caramely. Also I swear I also get some maple syrup notes in there. It's not my favorite.

But I have too admit that Prime 15 has really grown on me! It is vaguely reminiscent of tobacco flavor, with a very light note of cocoa. Not too much else, in my opinion. So, kind of neutral. I'm almost out of it, actually, while I have several cartos of Tribeca left. I still hope to find better tobacco flavorings, ones that resemble actual tobacco.

See, I actually like the flavor of tobacco. Well, good tobacco anyway. I apparently don't care too much for the RY4 caramel flavor. I was even considering going with whole tobacco extract, for flavor, but still trying to stay low on the nicotine level.

I've been vaping with 18mg now since I started, and it works for me, so I don't want to go any higher. I also think I could benefit from a lower content liquid, too, so that I could vape all day and not get nicotine poisoning. I really enjoy vaping, I must say. It's more like smoking a cigar, in the way you puff on it, but it calms my cigarette cravings, and it has its own ritualistic aspects.

I plan on trying out a few flavors at the local vape lounge, soon as I get a chance, and eventually finding some keepers. For now, I'm going to keep buying cartos of Prime 15, and I'll also try a few more of Halo's tobacco flavors. I think I'm going to try Torque 56 and Freedom Juice.

So anyway, thanks for all the suggestions, and feel free to keep them coming. I really like tobacco flavors, and would like to find some good, earthy, non-sweet flavors. :)

I stopped by a tobacconist shop today and picked up a pack of cartos of Torque 56. I'm charging my battery at the moment, but I plan on testing this out as soon as possible. The lady at the shop said this is the one that closest mimics RYO tobacco flavors, without going to a NET liquid. She also tried talking me out of my G6 and up into the Triton, lol. I said, "Hey lady, I'm new at this, I just bought this thing, let me work up to it!" lol

She was cool though.

Oh my god WOW!!!!! This is the one!!!! Torque 56 tastes the most like actual cigarette tobacco of all the flavors I've tried so far (which, I suppose, isn't that many). But this one, WOW! The flavor is very realistic, and the amount of vapor I get from this juice is amazing!!!!

Can't say enough about this one. I'm so happy I found one I agree with. Now, I just need to buy it in liquid form and try it out in a clearomizer.

I came to vaping from RYO and unfiltered cigs. My RYO of choice was Stokkebye Amsterdam Shag. Amsterdam Shag is a super strong blend of dark fired KY tobacco with rich VA, similar to a European style cig (no burley or Oriental tobaccos like most American cigs). I've also enjoyed some strong oriental RYO tobaccos.
This is me exactly. I used to smoke the high end packs before the prices went nuts: Nat Sherman, Export A, etc. Then started RYO with red Bali Shag until they disappeared. When they came back, they were not the same smoke at all, so I discovered the Stokkebyes and tried them all. Amsterdam and Stockholm are my go-to's. But I watched the pouches go from $2.75 to almost $14. It's just plain stupid to keep on doing that. I tried some of the bulk pipe tobaccos but they just don't compare.

I just received my first PV a few days ago. I got the N300 kit from Nhaler and ordered 3 tobacco juices only. So far I don't really like any of them. They don't even remotely resemble anything like tobacco IMO. I'm not 100% sure I'm doing it right either. Sometimes the throat hit actually makes me cough, and I often am left with a real dry, scratchy mouth after.

While I've enjoyed the various tobacco flavors I've tried, nothing is like smoking a cig and I've generally liked the non-tobacco flavors much more and I encourage you to try some. I'm finding that I really enjoy fruit flavors or other sweet flavors with a light menthol.
In tobacco eliquids, I really like Desert Ship and Mister-E-Liquid's (MEL) Grey Matter. MEL's RYO is also a good tobacco vape. With any of the mixed to order tobacco liquids I've tried I've found that steeping them for a week to 10 days really allows the flavors to meld and makes them taste better. I can vape some of the non-tobacco liquids right away, but the tobacco ones really seem to benefit from steeping time. The tobacco liquids I've tried have had smoke flavor blended in, and the smoke flavor takes time to clam down and not dominate.

I started out at 36mg and I liked it at first, but then I found out about proper vaping technique (hold it in your mouth, inhaling is optional). Once I developed better technique 36mg seemed too strong. My next order will be 18mg juice.
I did not get the fruity thing at all, but if what you say is true, that none of the tobacco juices really taste like tobacco, then I guess I will have to try something else. But in the meantime, I've ordered a few from Backwoods. Maybe I'll check out your suggestions too. Thanks!

I used to smoke rollies, bugler in the blue pouch was the best I absolutely despise top, and whatever cheap cig they had when I bought packs, but when I made the switch it was with boba's bounty by alien vapers. It's a tobacco flavor but doesn't taste like cigs. You can't really say what it tastes like because everyone says it tastes like something different but it is an awesome juice. If you get it I suggest getting a bottom coil clearo because it is a thicker darker juice and after vaping hard on it for about a week or so it killed my top coil clearos.

Here's a little update... maybe my taste buds have been changing lately, I don't know... but now that I've found Halo's Freedom Juice that has become my ADV, and the Torque 56 that I previously said was the most analog-esque flavor I've tried is now one of my least favorites. It's not bad in any way, but it is almost flavorless now. It's boring. Freedom Juice, on the other hand, is VERY much like an analog smoke. It's tasty!

So right now, my favorites are Freedom Juice and Prime 15, in that order.

Savoir-Faire is everywhere!
I used to roll or stuff tubes with Zig Zag blue tobacco. I liked it a lot and I smoked less since I was making them each time I needed a cigarette.

After I had trouble getting to the reservation to buy it, though, I ended up just smoking Pall Mall blue packs. And now, I still buy a pack every few days because I haven't QUITE got to the point of saying goodbye forever (I just started vaping a few days ago) but I think I will get there soon. I'm just really scared to quit all the way, I think. It's definitely psychological.

It is very easy my friend to quit cigarettes in whatever manner you smoked. It is so easy we try to support ourselves help ourselves with something to do. flavors, nic levels, PG/VG all looking for something more. New vaping devices methods all baloney. You have a device you vape and forget smoking this is all there is to it.
I had been handrolling since 1974 (untill than I Also had a history with ready mades too :) I was notorious. was described a cigarette a cup of tea and PC
In my foreign trade days I smoked Samson than other brand I forgot (It is funny) Than no brand tobacco known with a turkish city name and mild. I have seen e-cigs in tobacco sellers I tried a drag and I knew The cigarettes are done for.
Buy high nic level and if it is hard for you you can dilute with pure VG.
I am a dekang vaper My first love was number 5 but doff is not bad either. Desert, King of tobacco and USA mix can be tolerable and after a while whatever you vape is good (This is my thory) I could use strawbery and apple too (I would not believe it)
