so i bought my first mech mod today (k100) and it looks different than my friends. the piece at the very top screws off of the device, and on my friends k100 it does not. here is a pic:

it fires my protank 2 just fine, but it will not fire my dripper (phoenix v10, trident clone) here is a pic of my dripper:

so it it safe or possible to make the center pin of the dripper to protrude a little bit so it makes contact?

and what do you mean floating pin on k100, how do i adjust that?

I have one of the originals from Kamry, the top is pressed on. The center pin in the 510 connection is floating, meaning that the pin is pushed down by the atomizer when you screw it in the connector making for good contact, and it is then snugged up when you screw the body of the mod to make the battery snug.

my concern is if i have a real k100 or do i have some knock off piece of crap..

Well considering the K100 is basically a clone of the Empire Mod, yes you do have a knockoff (yes i know you're trying to figure out if it's a knockoff of a knockoff).

Don't remember seeing any with the removable top like that, but could be a design improvement that was made along the wat, from what i remember most of the 'real' kamrys had the 'KeCig' or whatever written on the top cap.

The real question is how much did you pay for it?

Well, does yours say KeCig on the top cap???? I think all Kamry K100's and all their variants say that. I know there are dozens of clones of the clones out there as well. I started doing some reaserch out of curiosity, and kamrytech.com has what they are calling K100 VV, wich is a K100 with a removable top cap and a removable kick tube that looks like yours. Another thing to look at, does yours have ego cone threads??? I know some of the Sigelei's didn't and all Kamry's do.

no mine does not have any type of name on the actual device. my friend's k100 does have the kecig name on it though..

what does this mean.. how do i figure out what kind mine is? the k100vv does look more like the one i have... what exactly is the k100vv? is mine still a mech mod and is it as good as the other k100s?

it came in a box that has "Siegeli" printed on it.

Then yes it's technically a clone of a clone, but at some point it really loses meaning because it's entirely possible these two clones are produced in the same factories just to slightly different specs or just different production runs with different marks (and topcap in this case).

Where did you buy it?

I wouldn't worry about whats a clone of what at this point and just worry about determining if the pin has any ability to adjust to accommodate different att's/set-ups.

If its not adjustable then i would consider it inferior to the kamry k100 and see what you can do about returning it.

If it is adjustable then it probably won;t effect much.

i bought it at altsmoke in Cincinnati it's no adjustable... my only option is to really use an adapter like this:

am i getting less performance compared to a kamry?

Im referring to the pin inside the connection of the head of the k100.

The problem with that trident is likely a different issue. Take flat object and apply gentle but stiff pressure to the center post (has insulator) of the trident and try to push the post down a tiny bit causing more of the pin to stick out of the connector itself, may solve that problem.

no, the pin inside the k100 clone is not floating... its just really deep and will not budge.. i have tried 2 different RDA's and the only way i can use them is to use the adapter.. im really thinking about asking for my money back. do you think they would give me a refund?

Was this a B&M or an online vendor?

It never hurts to ask, just approach whoever in a rational/reasonable way and explain your concerns with it.

It really blows my mind someone would modify the design of something and remove features (ie the floating pin, which is obv the best method on a telescoping mod).

if it was a piece of knock off poo, the top would have been pressed in. The additional machining to make the one you have is costly and a clone/cheapie would not have that design....
