Ok. If you have read any of my threads, you know I am a non smoker and I am providing for my elderly mother. She can't tell the difference between flavors, so I picked one that smelled best to me when she vapes close by.
I also prefer to fill mini tanks over cartomizers.
So I ordered Tribeca and a bunch of mini tanks.
All of the batteries I have are automatics.

I just read a thread that stated Tribeca over heats easily in a mini tank and gets a burned taste. I just made a significant investment in both.

Is this true when using the auto battery?
Is there a visible way to determine a "burned" mini tank or only by taste?
i didn't think mini tanks were as prone to buning as cartos?

don't worry, your fine. Tribeca is arguably Halo's most popular flavor and has been used in carto's, triton tanks, and mini-tanks with little issue. any wick can be burned under the wrong circumstances, but this is a lot harder to do with an automatic battery, especially if the tank has liquid in it. a dry wick is more likely to burn, and it's not an outright fire, just singeing the wick and it affects the flavor.

since the burnt portion is inside the coil, it's probably too difficult to see. but the taste will be quite evident. again think burnt toast vs lightly toasted bread. it's not unhealthy or dangerous, but it doesn't taste good.

perhaps... hard to be sure, without knowing how many ml of juice it has dealt with and what flavor.
Only about 4 ml of Torque. Then switched to Tribeca (1ml) without cleaning first, since my mom can't tell the difference.
Maybe the combination of the two didn't mix well?

i think what you are seeing is more the flavoring residue darkening the wicks than it being burnt. I would suggest you let it run empty and clean it soon though, IMO 5 ml through a mini tank is about where you want to start cleaning them. I am of the opinion, cleaning them early and often extends them longer than waiting till the crud build up is extensive.

get some distilled water to clean them in from the grocery store, and the cheapest non flavoured denture tables you can find.
you could probably rinse the tanks under warm tap water for a minute or two, then soak them over night in a cup with a denture cleaner and distilled water
tap water has unwanted minerals and chemicals in it

how is your mom doing anyway? I think it has been like a month she has been vaping, is she coughing or anything? is she thirsty?

I will add some Halo Fusion e-liquid to my next order.
My mother is doing fine. She has been vaping for almost 6 weeks now. My brother started her with drug store e-cigs and I upgraded to Halo.
Her night time coughing has decreased and so has her morning coughing. She had been waking up and barely able to talk because of the hoarseness, but that has almost gone away.
I am encouraged by the progress and obvious benefits of vaping over analog smoking.
She does drink a lot over the course of a day, but she is taking a water pill, so I was attributing that to the medicine.
Is being thirsty a by product of vaping?

Following your Mom's progress is truly heartwarming. I so admire her for doing this. And to you, Doc, for the positive enabling!

I wonder how many other senior smokers are out there, thinking to themselves "It's too late. There's no benefits for me at this point of stopping, the damage has already been done..."

Doc, I think you should click on someone's footer banner and put in your Mom's stop date and how much she used to smoke. Then, every time you post we all would see her progress.

(And Doc, pssst, yea, I swear, I promise it won't kill you, but you should take a little puff into your mouth of Tribeca just to taste it, and see if it is toasted or burnt every so often. Be brave. Your mom certainly is!!!)

After soaking, do you just rinse them out and then dry for a few hours?

So glad to hear your mom is doing well with the vaping - this is a wonderful story!

PG makes me incredibly thirsty - and it dries me out significantly. Halo juice is very heavy in PG, and so it's important that your mom drinks plenty, most particularly if she's already taking diuretics to avoid dehydration (and at her age this would be serious).

I don't ever remember managing to burn Tribeca - it's pretty heat tolerant if I recall correctly, unlike Belgian Cocoa! But a gunked up coil won't perform well.

I do take a "puff" on each one before I give it to her. Takes several minutes for the taste to go away.
However, Tribeca, is a lot easier to take.
Hey, way to go, Doc!!

And you made a banner for Mom!! :toast:

I'm glad it's working out for all.

And as Chesty says, a bit of a distilled rinse, then let dry, preferably overnight. Give them some good taps to dislodge as much water as possble. Even blow thru it, then let it dry.
