hey all. so i got into rebuilding a few weeks ago. it proved to be extremely frustrating so I've only done a few builds but I'm still fiddling and experimenting with it. when i first bought all my supplies from my local vape shop i bought cotton from them. it was just a bag of a 4X4 chunk of cotton. since it was from a vape shop (and this is a legit vape shop with experienced builders and vapers) i assumed it was the right kind of cotton and was ready to go so i got home did my first build, pulled off some cotton and began cloud chasing. now that i think about it i hear so much about boiling cotton, do you guys think this cotton still needs to be boiled? i know this is a question better suited for the shop i got this from but i just wanted your guys opinion. and also if am supposed to boil it, any tips on how to do so? I've heard your supposed to use distilled water. where can i find that? i don't have a water filter. or does boiling the water prior to adding the cotton distill it? thanks for the help guys

I don't feel knowledgeable enough to speak with any authority on the issue of boiling other than to say it certainly wouldn't hurt to do so just to be safe. You should be able to buy distilled water by the gallon at your local grocery store. Distilled is different from filtered. The process of distillation removes all additives and impurities (including various trace minerals).

If they sold you organic cotton then you do not need to boil it as it will just make a mess. Better to ask the shop what they sold you or go to the pharmacy and ask them for some organic cotton. A bagful will probably be cheaper than what you got at the vape shop, you won't need to boil it and it will last you a lifetime of making wicks even if you gave half of it away.

As Pbusardo says, "I did not boil my cigarettes before I smoked them". Boiling cotton isn't a thought on my mind. The teeny bit of hydrogen peroxide that may have been used to treat it is likely nothing when compared to the chemicals I used to inhale. I have 12 hours work days when you count my commute, plus two kids and a husband. No way am I spending what little time I've got boiling cotton.

I USE 100% Pure Organic UNBLEACHED cotton. It gives a very clean vape. You can get a very good deal on it off Amazon.com. it's sold by Cloud chasers. It looks like a tan yarn almost but it really is amazing and you can absolutely taste the difference! It's higer priced elsewhere for the exact same product so I buy it off Amazon. You get a big bag of it and it's wonderful! I also use 100% sterile cotton from time to time but the vape isn't as clean IMHO as the unbleached organic. You might check it out off amazon. It's really wonderful! If your using regular bleached non sterile cotton I would most definitely boil it. But that's just my opnion. Hope this helps.and hope you check out the organic, unbleached, cotton. It does make a flavor difference in my opinion.

My bag of organic cotton says that it was whitened with hydrogen peroxide... I'm guessing if it's white, it's been treated.

I use organic cotton balls from the drug store and I don't boil them.

And as for.... "I'm guessing if it's white, it's been treated."

No, not necessarily. Ever seen a field of cotton growing?
