I have been trying to help my frien get started into vaping. All correspondence has been through email so not too easy to get all the details. I recommended the same setup i was using (VAMO and protank) she was reporting consistently getting burnt taste even with a new coil. She is in the Chicago area and went to a shop and was told her VAMO was fried,,and purchased a "fat boy" I suspected that she was perhaps hitting the vamo hard and heavy and burning wicks but i don't know. Does anyone know of this happening with the VAMO or any other PV. I am waiting to hear back on how they determined the VAMO was fried.

I could be wrong but i would think that if it was fried it wouldnt work at all. She may have had it turned up to high and burned the coils on the first vape. It seems that once they get burned the taste never gos away, or it could have been a bad coil from the get go. I have seen alot of people saying that the coils that come with the tanks are not great for them. :2c:

I second this. Try with a fresh head... the Protank usually ships with 2(?)
And suggest starting at the lowest voltage, and incrementally going up until a good flavor is reached, or going down a step when it starts tasting wrong. Thats what Id do, for whatever thats worth.

Highly unlikely that the Vamo is fried if it is giving any hits at all. Worst case is that she had the voltage set too high.

What is more likely is that she was not getting enough juice to the coil. Some ProTank coils seem to be a little to thick, particularly with higher VG content. Pulling just a little bit of the wicking out probably would have made it work fine. Also, blowing into the ProTank like you are blowing up a balloon should make some bubbles appear. That air will be displaced by liquid in the wick, and this is an easy way to get some liquid to the coil, too. I often have to do this with mine when the tank is full.

protank stock coils suck plain and simple. they burn on my vamo if i don't replace the silica wick with cotton. they were trying to sell her something. also avg/rms modes are also a issue. needs to be adjusted to rms mode to function properly. hold down the plus button until you see N02 display. N01 is not what you want, if N01 comes up, press and hold the plus button again until N02 comes up N02 is rms mode and will adjust voltage properly.

I have been very rigorous in trying to walk her through step by step,,I had her set to rms,,I instructed her on starting low whether using volts or ohms,She was using a 50/50 mix,,,she tried several coils and claimed to have the same taste. She seems happy with what the shop sold her,,,She is super excited about being off of cigarettes. I may pay to have her mail the VAMO to me so i can have a look. I suspected it was how she was hitting it,,but if she is happy now i guess that is what matters. I feel badly if i got her to wate money. I just wished I would have been directed better before I got into vaping.

I ran this set up for awhile. The rms mode is a big deal, when I first got mine I did (burnt taste all the time), but something I noticed with the the protank on it, was that I had to remove the "flavor" wicks on the top of the protank ato's as it would taste burned with all of them in. I usually just recoiled them, but they worked fine. My vamo actually did fry and ya doesn't work won't turn on, nothing. My battery went bad and leaked on the board, I dropped it 100 times and never broke it even.. But, most likely they just said it was broke to get her to buy something from them...

IMHO a protank is not a nooby device. it just isn't. its pretty much a rba. a lot easier, and yes you can buy heads, but lets call a spade a spade. the heads just dont preform well. even if you dont get the burnt flavor fine, but i challenge you all who have protanks, and have not yet swapped wicks with a cotton one to do so. you dont need to rebuild the coil. i reposted a post in the rba section on a step by step instructions on how to do so. so if your reading this post, go do it. all you need is some cotton balls and hands. 1 cotton ball will do like 20 wicks prob more.

I have to agree with the comments about the stock coils that come with the protank. Every single one I have used will get one or two good hits then taste burnt. I never use the stock coils now. I always rebuild them with 2.5 mm silica and .32 Kanthal wire. Usualy about 4 wraps of the canthal around the silica with a straightened out paperclip to help hold the silica steady works well. Then slide the paperclip out and you will have a good wick and coil that is not wrapped too tightly as to prevent wicking. After the rebuild you MUST check your new coil with an ohm meter to insure that you don't have any shorts. After that put it on a variable voltage mod that has short circuit protection and check the ohms again. Then set the voltage at the about 3.2 volts and fire it up without the tank in place so you can see the coils. Look for hot spots and insure that the wraps heat up evenly. If all looks well then turn the voltage up to no more than about 3.7 volts if you have a coil that is about 1.8 - 2.2 ohms. You should get an nice even glow. If all is well then reassemble the protank and fill it up. The first hit or three may be a little off but it should come in very well after that. Search youtube for Kanger Protank Rebuild for some very good videos on this. My last rebuild was almost three weeks ago and it is still working like day one. Very impressive if I do say so myself.

Sounds like she was setting the volts or watts too high. Also sounds like the "shop" was just interested in making a quick buck..

I agree. I have noticed quite a bit of difference between the vamo and the eVic. I have a tank on the vamo set at 6.0 w and it tastes a little burned, and put it on the eVic at 7 w and get little vapor and have to crank it up to like 8 or 8.5 w.

That shop should have suggested dropping the v or w and sold some awesome home made juice or an awesome tank instead.
