so far, noone with sufficient nollitsch has dared to answer :ß

What difference are you looking for? Assuming the same type of metal is used for both I am willing to bet you will not be able to detect the difference with the same dimension coil.

Both utilize a low(ish) gauge wrap which contributes highly to the coil’s overall mass and would require a significant amount of power in order to mitigate ramp up. Personally I feel both are poor coils.

26ga*2 would be pretty much a 0.4*0.8mm (minus the rounded edges), very similar to the 0.3*0.8mm one (with less rounded edges), and both are wrapped in 32ga (0.2mm).

I wanted to try the flat+wrapped approach for increasing the coil's juice-touch/surface ratio, and both wire types are offered at the same price ($1.79 per 15ft), so I don't know which one to take, plus what to await in terms of power consumption (SS316L). The simple non-wrapped flat wire has substantially less sex-appeal ^^

I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to exotics but I have been interested in the same thing but with the simple flat wire. From the reading i've done a lot of people use 'Flaptons' or flat wire now in their builds as it has improved flavour and it makes sense I suppose. There is going to be much better contact between the cotton and the inner coil surface so more direct juice contact and therefore better vape.

I think that's how it goes.....as far as these 2 wires I would pick the one that presents the flattest profile and in terms of power consumption i would think they would be pretty similar if they're close to the same mass and diameter :)

You comparing the width of the core? With a Clapton type coil you have to take both the core and the wrap into consideration. The wrap contributes to the overall mass of the coil, so the lower the gauge, the higher the mass the more power is needed and the more time is required for the coil to cool down.

We all have our own values and preferences when it comes to Clapton type coils, but personally I feel the wrap should contribute little to the overall mass.

Example using one of my SS316 Fused Clapton’s

2x 28awg with a 40awg wrap. 7 windings around a 3mm ID = ~190mg in mass
2x 26awg with a 32awg wrap 5 windings around a 3mm ID = ~480mg in mass

The 2 coils are roughly the same size but one is more than double in mass and will require a significant amount of power

If I had to choose, I'd go for the Fused.
But as others have already said, both choices are rather poor and only worth a look if you have to go cheap, because both need lots of power for no additional gain aside from fast draining batteries and extremely hot spitback.
Do yourself a favor and get some decent Fused Clapton wire with a thinner wrap, because 26*2/38 or 28*3/38 will perform that much better.

in your estimation, folks.. how many watts would I roughly need to power

2x 26ga + 32ga wrap
2x 28ga + 40ga wrap
3x 28ga + 38ga wrap

Given I'll use the coils only in single battery setups, power usage will be important...

That will depend on the metal of each wire, the dimension of the coil, how warm you like your vape and the airflow of the atomizer used. Should all else be equal, the 2x28awg + 40awg wrap will be the least amount of mass therefore require the least amount of power. I use a 6 wraps 3mm ID SS316 2x28awg + 40awg at roughly 37 to 45 watts for a single coil.
