I have been using my Riva 510 kit since early April, and I love it. However, I have recently began wondering if I am not selling myself short by not exploring other models. From what I have gathered, both the 510 and 901 and can be used on small or large batteries. So what is the difference, other than the obvious different thread patterns? For that matter, what is the difference in any model of atomizer?

If you are talking about atomizers, you should try at least a couple different attys... the Riva is a so called "3.7" pv... which indicates a conventional 3.7 voltage pv ( i would imagine it means the battery, but many include vaping voltage to the atty/carto ). In reality the voltage is more like 3.2 to 3.4 true voltage.

You will want an atty that is in the low resistance to standard (regular) - 1.5 Ohm to 2.5 (for 510 attys) range. Anything higher than 2.5 is a stretch and the vapor production is minimal.
(although some cartos 2.5 to 2.8 are ok)

The 901 atty comes from LR (1.8 Ohm), to standard 2.8 Ohm... for some reason the reg 901 does work ok on a Riva or eGo type pv. but I like them with a VV higher voltage (3.7 to 4.5v).

IMO the 901 gives a better flavor and slightly cooler vape, and lots of vapor...
BUt most prefer the 510 which is the most popular.

Don't miss the 306 atty too. It's a fun one.

using a LR 901 atomizer for the first time today (510-->901 adapter and drip shield from empiremods) and for me the difference is that its more smooth. its a little bit more tight on the draw and the flavor is a little more distinct. i also notice a definite drop in throat hit. its kinda nice to try something different. i think ill be using these more often when im at home on my more fruity/bakery flavors...and my 306s when im out and about and need a more analog type draw.

not sure if you can use em on the rivas/egos, but if you can, get an adapter and dripshield (they tend to leak without it) and try it out. everyone has different opinions

the empire might cause a bit of tight draw... not sure, but for those that are worried about leaking from the side hole, you can put an o-ring just below the hole and it catches juice, and it will be sucked back up when you draw.
I don't use anything because i have catch cups on my PVs anyway... and the 901 can take a lot of juice - up to 5 drips.

I drip 99% of the time... a Pyrex drip tip is the best I've found... i have them for all my pv's... you never get juice in the mouth, and the drips go down fast. Once in a while they get hung up, and you kind of blow sideways on the lip, like when you want to make a bottle whistle

yeah, sorry, what i meant was the Riva which is a 3.7 pv (3.4 true voltage), will be a little weak for a 2.8 to 3 Ohm 901 (reg) atty... for some reason the 901 reg is made for the 3.7 and will get some vapor... but try a 3.0 Ohm 510 on it and it's not going to work well at all.

Maybe I misunderstood what ukeman said but I have a Riva and a 901 and the 901 atty won't fit on a Riva without an adapter.

Are you asking about the slim ecigs Joye 510 and DSE901? Or the fat battery models like Ego, Riva 510, Riva 901?

Slim ecigs cannot use LR atomizers or cartomizers

510 has the most stuff - the most different atomizers (especially the fat battery models which can also use LR stuff). The most different kinds of blank cartomizers (the most popular way to vape). As well as tank atomizers and tanks. Slim 510 manual batteries are totally sealed metal on the threaded end so they are very safe from damage from leaks. The voltage is only around 3.2v but they are very nice to vape with Boge cartomizers and other ways.

901 has less stuff. Less variety of atomizers, much harder to find 901 cartomizers. However some KR808D-1 cartomizers might work without an adapter (mainly on the fat battery 901's that have a slotted center post of their battery to let air get to the carto air intake, for example the brand of Riva 901 Liberty-Flights sells) Normal slim 901 and non-slotted fat models may need an adapter to use KR808D-1 cartos. There is a good variety of prefilled and blank cartos around for KR808D-1. DSE901 atomizers have a hole in the side that juice may leak out of if the atomizer floods. Some people like the vapory airier hit of 901.

There are adapter available to use 901 stuff on 510 and vice versa.
