Hi,
Last night while in the pub, vaping away happily while my friends had to go outside to smoke, the topic of vaping, smoking etc was discussed. I was explaining that so far, that there are no carcinogens in eliquids, when a friend asked, me what was the differnce between chewing tobacco & eliquid. In particular, why can chewing tobacco cause mouth cancer when it is not smoked. I didn't have a good answer, but after doing a little Googling this morning, it seems that mouth cancer from chewing tobacco is also caused from the chemicals in the chewing tobacco. I would obliged if anybody had some more medical on this.......

The reality is that chewing tobacco, and in fact all types of smokeless tobacco made in the US and Sweden (don't know what you have in the way of smokeless in Ireland) have very low to no risk of oral cancer. It's a common myth that smokeless tobacco is just as harmful as smoking when in fact it is dramatically less harmful. Take a look at Brad Rodu's blog along with tobacco harm reduction organization to get up to speed on smokeless tobacco.

Snus, which is a Swedish style of moist snuff has no connection to any oral cancer. Smokeless tobacco also has no connection to heart disease which kills as least as many smokers as cancer.

Well, I'll have to admit it, I was one of those who was duped into thinking that chewing tobacco can cause oral cancer. Mind you if one does a quick search, top results direct you to websites indicating a link e.g. Smokeless Tobacco and Cancer - National Cancer Institute

but if I look a little deeper, one starts to get a different opinion.

The three major causes of oral cancer are smoking, alcohol, and HPV (passed on from oral sex). If Smokeless tobacco showed up on the list at all it would way down on the bottom, and snus not at all. If you look at the claims made by the ANTZ one thing that stands out is that they never show any studies to back up there claims. The reason for that of course is that there are no studies to back up there claims.
