PEG 400 I have heard of. It's an alternative base to PG or VG. It's not all that commonly used. I have tried it, and don't like it personally. It is said to be more flavour neutral than the others. I found it seems to add it's own taste (and not a good one) to everything, but perhaps I'm sensitive to it or something. The liquids I made with it initially start out OK, but the weird taste seemed to develop as I continued to use it in the same atty, and I'd have to clean out the atty to get rid of it.

PG is Propylene Glycol and PEG is Polyethylene Glycol (PEG). The number after the PEG moniker is the molecular weight of the PEG, which can be made in many different weights. PEG is inert, broadly non-toxic (curiously, PEG application to damaged/broken skin can cause kidney disease but it is used in medications and laxatives) and used in a wide variety of products - from consumer to medical, internal and external products.
