Difference in cartos... (dogs' NF mod)

Hey all.

So I've been tryin the no filler drip mod on a batch of cartos I had layin around. I've noticed some differences between the cartos that is kinda buggin me. Three out of the six I'm workin on have a soft cap and o-ring, the other three have a hard cap, no o-ring. Now on the soft cap ones I've noticed that the filler/wick are deeper down in the carto, and the ones with the hard cap have alot more filler and a longer wick, which makes sense cause of the now o-ring factor. I read somewhere on here that the ones with no o-ring have a groove built into the cap so they don't need the o-ring.

Now I've been able to pull the filler out of the soft cap with no problems at all, the wick is intact and vaping beautilfully. The hard caps, not so easy... I've tried to pull the filler out of two of the hard caps. Both times pulling the entire wick and wire out with it, tried it dry and wet both with same results.

What I'm wondering is if these are old/new designs of cartos, if so what are the advantages/disadvantages between the two, why the change and has anybody gotten the filler out of the hard cap with the wick intact.

I have removed the hard to get off tip filler by grabbing the filler with needle nose pliers and twisting the carto back and forth, as I pull up slowly.
