He's really more than just a drummer. "Rhythm Engineer" would be more appropriate.

This is Steve Smith of Journey fame. I got hooked on this guy's work ever since I used my allowance money at age 13 to buy Journey's live album Captured in 1981. His solo in the second half of La Do Da just blew me away, and ever since then I've been hard pressed to find a drum solo I like more.

This video shows Smith practicing a variety of rhythm work at home in 2010 on drums and with his voice. If you're a drummer or a fan of percussion, or just of music in general, I think you'll be impressed. Enjoy!
