Yes a dirty atty diminishes the flavor and amount of vapor and can make it taste bitter too IMO

I can go at most a week before I have to swap attys and clean the used one. Last week was worse because I was vaping more of juices with oil-based flavorings as well as sampling a very thick all-VG juice and I think that dirtied up my atty faster.

Every weekend I switch to a clean dry atty (after priming it nicely with juice) and I drop the used on in a jar of vodka (but I need to get grain alcohol which is purer but still edible). I make sure all trapped air is out of the atty, swish around a bit and leave overnight in the jar. Next day I swish then scoop some of the alcohol through the atty to rinse out any dissolved gunk. Then I shake it out well and lay on paper towels to try (I keep a little drying container - bottom of a cheese spread tub or something, as my drying place for stuff. If you needed to dry faster then use a blow dryer or blow through it a lot.

Some people can get benefit out of a quick cleaning - like 15 minutes in vodka or grain alcohol (some use rubbing alcohol but that's a poison so I don't). Make sure it's all wet inside and submerged and leave for 15 minutes. Then scoop some alcohol through it to rinse, then shake it out into the sink, pat the outside dry and blow dry or blow through it until it's dry inside, especially the bridge area.

There is also a way to clean with pouring boiling water but that would take longer to dry.

And BTW - your cart stuffing might be gunky too. I can only get 4-5 days of good taste out of the same white cart stuffing then I switch it to blue foam. And if I fool around too much mixing in the cart, or use thick or oil-flavoring juices, even my blue stuffing can get a bit icky so if that happens I hold the stuffing under running water, pat dry with paper towels. I also rinse the cart and shake dry. This past weekend I needed both a clean atty and a cart/foam cleaning.

It is possible to clean some white stuffings (maybe with alcohol instead of running water) but I can never get them back right. You can also buy polyfill stuffing from the craft store and use that as stuffing but I think blue foam is better. For 510 you can get precut blue foam at strictlyejuice.com (says they are for 901 too but some 901 carts are a different shape I don't think the precuts would work in). or you can cut your own from Marineland Rite-SIze U Foam Sleeve from the aquarium dept of Petsmart.

I know users tend to be divided on this one. I tried cleaning once using alcohol blowing out and dry burns etc. It caused that "dirty atty" flavor for me. So, now I just use em. When they get a but clogged, I blow em out. But, I don't clean.

The logic for me was once you clean and dry burn, you do "cook off" the gunk. But now you have burnt gunk on your coil. So you have to repeat the process until it's clean. Too much hassle for me. I just keep on vaping...
