This thing sounds like a good deal. Was going to try to build my VV PT. However, at this cost it can't be cheaper than this. Just have one question. (I did send a request to Eric for information, but wanted to see if I could get a quicker response here. I know he's busy and probably will get back to me when he can. With it being the weekend, just wanted to see if this would be faster.)

So the question is, since a computer can only put out 500mA, does this device not put out much wattage (power) to the coil? With ohms law (and the suggestion of only using a 2.0 or greater resistance atty), @4.2v with an 500mA draw, i would only get 2.1 watts at my atty. Though, I'm not 100% sure I know what's going on in this device. So, basically, does this thing vape good if it's able to be used an a computer??

In general, it's better to run a passthrough off an outlet (with an AC to USB adapter or a surge protector with USB outlet) than off your computer. I haven't heard of it happening for a couple of years but a few time early generation passthroughs blew out the USB port and took the computer with it. (I think it was mostly the ones with a battery in the middle of the cord but I figure why take a chance with my computer.)

My question about the passthrough -- a few of the reviews of the silver one say the only weak spot is where the cord meets the vaping end. I am willing to add a couple of drops of epoxy to solve that if need be but if the black version (which doesn't have any reviews) is more stable, I'll go with that.

Any feedback?

Heya Poeia! I'm not familiar with these, but if you haven't dealt with Eric before, he will be completely honest and fair about everything! He's a lot like "D" in that way. We like to call Eric not our vendor, but our friend who sells us vaping stuff.

Really I just wanted to say "hi"! :w00t:

Hi.

I got 2 Ovale V8s from Eric. I know he's good. (And we had some lovely e-mails back and forth when I wrote to tell him he forgot to cash the check I sent for the first one.)

But, as he points out on his site, he's just one person. He suggests coming here for answers. I'm sure if no one else volunteers the info, Eric will post a reply.

So, I bought two of these. Four days later, I posted a 5-star review on the website. I just wanted to update it now that 7 weeks have passed (and I don't see a way to do that to my original review.)

I dabbed a bit of Krazy Glue where the wire meets the device on both. I then learned that my AC-to-USB converter wasn't strong enough to power these PTs. It needs 2 amps and 10 watts. Once I got a better converter, I tested both PTs to make sure they worked and put one away for the future. I've used the other one every day since then. It has performed flawlessly. The glue has held the wire in place with no give at all.

To keep it from hiding among all of the computer equipment and wires at my desk, I attached a cabledrop to the side of the desk. The cord is narrow enough to slide through the opening effortlessly but wide enough that it doesn't fall out. It is therefore my only PV which I can find instantly without mentally retracing my steps.

To date, the only problem I have had is beak marks. My parrot, Poeia, knows I don't want her to play with it. Of course that mean when she is sitting with me the cord ends up in her mouth immediately. As a result, I am getting better about remembering to hang it off the side of the desk when she's on this side of the room. (She's the same way about bottles of e-liquid.) This will probably not be a problem for most people. ;-)

FYI 2 amps at 5 volts (which is the output of a usb connector) always equals 10 watts...

I started with a Belkin Mini Surge Protector I already owned which has 2 USB ports -- 2 amps, 5 volts and, at first, I thought the PTs were broken. Then I realized that if I held my thumb on the switch long enough, I could hear the crackle of the carto very faintly. I bought a converter that's 2 amps, 10 watts and they both work perfectly. Basically, it's an iPad converter. The ones that are 2A, 5V are the ones that get reviews like "it took all day to charge my iPad to the halfway point."
