Hi all,
I need some advise from the people who have some experience in joining res/no res wires using the disposable camera flash DIY welders:

I got myself a fuji disposable camera, got the flash electronics out, made a good looking "BOX" with two aligator clips sticking out, and a button to charge the capacitor. I am beginning to get good results joining the wires as I do some trial and error, but here is the big problem:

My wires (especially the resistance A-1 Kanthal) is being welded to the aligator clip at the same time, and I have to take it off the aligator clip, which sometimes cuts it in half, or gives it a weak point at that area.

ANY IDEAS???????????????

Many of us filled the inside of the clips with solder, and filed them flat. Some got clips with a flat surface on each side. Either way, the aim is to lower the resistance at the clip by providing better contact with the wire.

I used the solder method, and it does help. I haven't gotten around to experimenting with mine much beyond that, yet.

i have used flat aligator clips and also used a sand paper to make the contact area as smooth as possible, but have not yet tried this soldering method... will give it a try. thanks.

My guess would be that you need a tighter hold on the wires, so the current flows through the connection instead of arcing at the connection.
