Hi everyone
It appears i can only post here so i hope its ok to ask this here.
I want to buy some distilled water to thin out my VG a little, but i cant seem to find it very easily. Im in the UK. Going to pop to Tescos soon to see if they have any but would the stuff in halford be suitable? Is distilled water just distilled water, whereever its bought from?

also, what is the danger of using tap water? im not planning on using it but just wanted to know.
Thanks a lot

I always thought that a container of tap water left with a loose cap for one month would be considered distilled, but I dont' know if that really is true.

Several others have posted on here that if you boil water and were able to collect the steam, that is distilled water. For example if you boil some water in a pan with a lid, then remove that lid and allow what steamed water that has collected on that lid to drip into a cup, there you have distilled water.

Hopefully someone else can chime in here and correct me if I'm wrong.

the top part no.. that just makes stagnate water.. its no good..

boiling and collecting the steam is distilled though.. guess that would be the cheapest way since you only need a very small amount..

It wasn't easy to find, but at my local US grocer I eventually found the distilled water in the bottled drinking water section. They also had jugs of -- get this -- "baby water." This is also apparently distilled water and intended to mix with forumla. But... "baby water"? :D

Baby water is probably tap water without fluoride. But I don't really know. Supermarkets carry it as that is the type of water best for putting in steam irons. You can get here in the states a gallon jug for about $1.25.

You have to play around with using water to thin VG juices. around 20% is ok in many cases, but some want less.

Not saying anyone uses it, but be careful with "baby water's" some do have added flouride in them.

Seriously I understand the economy is down right now here in the states but dang, I bought a gallon of distilled water at wal mart for .98 cents today. lolol By the time you factor in electricity/gas, running up your water bill, trying to catch steam, performing reverse osmosis, and any other way you can think of is it really worth it?

For someone on the other side of the pond, who can't find it, and is about to pay probably 5 times that much AND shipping...then yes, I'd say it's worth it.

thats the problem, you cant just pop to the supermarket and get it, its just not there, not that i can find anyway, and ive been to 6 of them and 5 pharmacies so far. they sell everything else i need, PG, VG etc, just not distilled water.

Anyway i decided i dont really need it for now, been making up some juices with 50/50 mix of VG and PG as the base and its working great, lots of vapour, not too thick liquid, only made lemon/lime so far but got lots more to try later

Just be sure to not skip ANY of the steps, particularly the ice in the lid part, as that is very important.

If you don't put ice in the lid, you'll still be able to collect some condensed water vapor (distilled water), but it will be FAR less than if you do use the ice.

Next time you go to take a shower, heat up half of your mirror with a blow dryer for 3 minutes, then take your shower. You'll see that while all of the mirror will be "fogged up", the part that you didn't heat up will be significantly "foggier".

That's because the part that wasn't heated was room temperature, and the part that was heated is obviously warmer than room temperature.

So when cooled with ice, you can imagine how much MORE water vapor is going to cling to the surface (in this case, the inverted lid of the pot).
