DIY E-Juice Questions

Quit a 25 year analog habit 3 months ago and after having tried a good amount of stock from many well respected vendors, I have gotten to the point where I wanted to try making my own e-juice. I ordered some flavorings from TFA, nic from RTS Vapes, pg from Tractor Supply and VG from Wal-Mart. I vape primarily on a diy 3.7v box mod with a LR 306 atty. In making and subsequently trying my diy ejuice, I ran into a couple of oddities that I hope someone can help answer...

1. One of the flavors I got was TFA Red Bull, mixed at 20% in 70/30 pg/vg. Smells great, first couple of toots are good, but then it totally loses flavor. If I put it away and come back, same thing. Have let it steep for a couple of days and it had no impact. What can I do (or what did I do wrong) to make the flavor stay?

2. Since I drip in the 306, I usually let it get a little on the dry side before I put more drops in (have gotten pretty good at getting it to the "one toot away from nasty" point). I am used to and can recognize the dry atty flavor... but with this diy juice that I made, that dry atty flavor has become almost like a chemical solvent flavor. Takes UCK to a whole new level. Any ideas on what might be causing that and how I can prevent it?

TIA

I'm such a newbie at DIY that my reply won't be worth as much as some of the others who are more seasoned but here goes....I'm thinking maybe you should back off on the flavor %. I've yet to see any flavor I can stand at above 10% as that's where the "acetone" type taste creeps in. Try making a very small batch at 10%, let it steep for a day and then add a drop or two if needed until you hit a good flavor mark. I think once we overdo it with flavoring, the original flavor we're shooting for begins to go south. It may smell great but the chemicals that make up the whole begin to overtake that one top note we're looking for. I've found with some flavors, 8% is the max before the yucky taste begins to surface. This is a strange journey to say the least.

On the "one toot away from yuck", I've found I don't care much for dripping on LR atomizers but that's just my personal preference. I've got a couple of debridged LR 306 attys and I think I'd be a little happier with them if they weren't LR as they do go from tasty to horrendous pretty quickly ;)

But - as I said, that's just my preference. Yours might be completely different.
