Hey guys,

I want to make my own eliquid. I've watched a few youtube videos and have a general understanding of what to do.

I have a few questions I hope some vets can help out with.

What's better to cut with, PG or VG? I heard somewhere that VG is thicker and creates more vapor. Is there any other pros/cons of PG vs VG?

For the nicotine base, does it matter if its PG, VG or mix?

Is there a certain brand of VG or PG that is superior? I heard some people saying the wal-mart brand is bad.

Any other tips on getting started would be appreciated!

Cheers,

Tyler

my last large quantity of nic I bought was vg it's thick next time I'll buy it from here you can get it blended and choose your mix Organic Nicotine Solution - 100mg/ml you can also get lower mg on the site, I mix at 80vg/20 PG it's all about what you prefer I buy my pg/vg buy the gallon to save money http://www.essentialdepot.com/servlet/the-Glycerin-USP-Kosher-Vegetable/Categories or you can get PG from a local tractor supply store for around $20.00 a gallon, capella's 5 Flavor Super Deal for 19.95 good way to try a few flavors on the cheap, I like the strawberry and cream and the hazelnut and chocolate glazed donuts but again it personal preference

Hi Tyler, & Welcome to ECF! I've been mixing my own e-liquid for a few months now & it's pretty simple but it's also something you'll want to ease into slowly. There is a section below the Beginners' Forum on DIY E-Liquid with a HUGE amount of information on the subject, as well as a few online or downloadable e-juice calculators that are really handy. Generally, you'll probably want to decide what percent ratio of PG/VG your final mix should be, and what percent nicotine. Then you'll need to calculate the flavoring percentages (flavorings I use are mostly in a glycol base), and any water or PGA that's added. The downloadable calculator I use (it's free!) handles most all of this stuff, which saves a lot of time.

Anyway go ahead and get your 5 posts under your belt... no spam, no repetition, etc, but I think you can post wherever interests you in this forum for it to count... then wait an hour and you can post anywhere I think. Good luck, & Happy Vaping!

Quite simply...

PG gives more TH and not as much vapor...and it's thinner
VG gives more vapor and less TH...and it's thicker.

VG tends to mute flavour a little from what I've noticed.

There's nothing wrong with mixing the two, and for some hardware it's required to put some VG in to thicken up the liquid to avoid leaks.

To help you better and help us suggest a starting ratio of PG to VG, what hardware are you using and will you be using it with cartos, carts, tanks, dripping, etc.

I'm fairly new to DIY myself, but have found it easy and fun to do. To answer your question about walmart VG, I remember reading in this forum that ALL VG sold here is made by the same company, HUMCO I think it is. I could be wrong but I don't think you will have any trouble if you use it. Maybe someone with more knowledge will verify this. Happy mixing!

You could start out buying premixed base in the nicotine strength you vape (or close to it) then just fool with flavorings. Once you know the ratio you like of flavorings, and how to mix them, get involved with higher volumes.

I like to keep the math easy and buy close to what I vape in nic base then just add some VG which I literally have a bucket of, and flavoring.

I use the Humco VG. It's USP and everything I've read has said it is fine to use.

As far as which is better to cut with... it really depends on what you want your final VG/PG ratio to be. Take a look at the commercial juices you vape right now and see what the ratio is. Then use a juice calculator to see how much of each VG and PG you would need to add if your nic was in VG and then if your nic was in PG. That should give you an idea of what all you are going to need.

For example, if your favorite juices that you use right now are 70/30 PG/VG, then make up a dummy recipe in a juice calculator and see how much of each ingredient you would need if your nic base was 100% PG or if it was in 100% VG. See how much VG and PG you'd need to add with 5% flavoring, 10% flavoring, etc...

I'd recommend just going ahead and getting some VG from walmart and ordering some PG from somewhere online. That way you will have both available to tinker with.
