DIY Failures!!

I am new to the forum and DIY and thought if someone else can do it so can I. I purchased 6mg/100%pg flavorless nic, pg, vg and 5 flavors from TFA. I previously ordered all pre mixed e-liquid from madvapes. I became a fan of Waffle for sure. So that was my first project. So far they all taste pretty bad. Well at least not enjoyable to me. I am pretty picky about my juice, but am wondering if it is normal to fail miserably. I have done 3 different mixes and havent really liked any of them. I also did a white chocolate rasberry and couldnt even vape it. Any Ideas of what I am doing wrong?

I prefer a big throat hit so I have been mixing 85pg/15vg and have done anywhere from 10% flavoring to 20% flavoring. I purchased belgian waffle, rasberry, maple syrup, white chocolate and black cherry from TFA.

Also, I have always used Carts and never tried atomizers, is it better to test different mixes with atomizers? Using carts can be very costly. I can fill one with waffle, blow it out and try my batch of black cherry. So with carts you basically have to crack a new one to test each flavor to get the true flavor.

Couple questions. Where did you order your base liquids from? Sometimes the pg, vg, or nicotine can make or break a juice. Cheap base ingredients, cheap juice. Also if you want big throat hit why are you mixing with 6mg juice? I would say you would benefit from buying a LOT higher nic base. Maybe like a 48mg that will be diluted down as you mix in other ingredients. Also in doing that you can add more vg, without loosing throat hit, which will cause the juice to be more sweet, too much PG can make flavoring taste funny.

Lastly yes, I know cartomizers are cheaper than atomizers but you would be better off using dripping atomizers for tasting. Just blow out the juice from the atty if you don't like it and add another mix. LOT more work to clean out a carto thoroughly enough to get rid of lingering flavor.

I meant 60mg nic. I mix it to 24mg. I got everything from my freedom smokes. I figured an atty would be easier, just never used them. So you think I wont lose any of the punch in the throat if I bump the vg up to 30-40%?

How long did you let them steep? The more complicated the flavor the longer it needs to steep.

the mix was 8% waffle, 4% maple and 4% white chocolate and steeped for 24 hours.

your on the right track, but not with the above recipie (imho)... I would take out the white choco and do rasberry at 7%. Rasberry needs a day or two steeping to cool off though. If you want to use the white choco i would mix it with the dark cherry or rasberry and add a little sweetner. Carto's just dont work for diy, you need a dripping atty. I do my DIY at 60vg/40pg and get plenty of TH. Also choco flavors are strong, 2-3% is enough

The DIY section on this forum is invaluable and has alot of info and others people who DIY there. If you like sweets I'd try Capella's flavoring available at ecigexpress or high desert vapes. Chocolate is a hard flavor to get right. I would also start with one individual flavor and a sweetener and see if you like the flavor at all. From what I understand TFA is used from 5-25% generally. Nobody makes perfect juice right out of the gate to answer your question. Good luck.

I agree with everything said here! Also to reply from earlier at 24mg with higher vg your not going to loose tons of Throat hit. If you got enough supplies why not try! The other thing ive found from chocolate flavors is that you sometimes need a sweetener to sweeten it up. Ethyl maltol powder mixed with some pg. There is a mixture if you search around here some, its like 1/4 tsp to 10mls of PG but double check me before mixing.

This forum is pretty bad ...! I have been vaping for over a year and didnt know about this until I started researching diy. Thanks ladies and gents for the help. It is good to know what I can and cant do and still keep the TH, I basically have no interest in a flavor, even if it tastes good if it doesnt drop kick me in the throat!!

BTW...What is a good chocolate flavoring I can order?
