I have never used that calculator but, no. It should ask you what base (pg/VG)your nicotine is when you input the strength (mg) that you are starting with. The calculator will calculate what is in your nic as part of your PG or VG % you will need to add more pg/vg along with your flavors to lower the nicotine strength and make it vapeable.

Thank you, see why I need you people? God only knows what I'd be vaping if I tried to figure this out myself :)

Oh I intend to buy and buy soon. The way I understand it, the nicotine itself will still be allowed (for now), but premixed eliquid will be "contraband". So my worry is, with the nic bases including pg/vg, they may be considered unflavored eliquid. I was just hoping to figure out the basics before I ordered.

No they won't consider it ejuice in that form. It is not yet ejuice until you dilute it down with pg/vg and flavors to a vapeable form.

You are not the first with these type of questions and will not be the last. better to ask questions than to take risks handling nicotine.

See the first two lines on this calculator. Notice the first line asks for your base nicotine strength and pg/vg%? Second line asks you your target nicotine and pg/vg%?

The first line is asking what you are starting with. The second line is asking where you want to end up.

The rest is just entering the % of flavors you want to use. It will calculate the exact amounts of everything to use at the bottom.

As mentioned, you need VG and PG by themselves to get your mixes right, but the nic COMES in one or the other.
To pick, it helps to know what you like in your final mix.
If you're aiming for "high vg" get your nic in VG (and most of your PG will come from flavorings).
If you're aiming for 50/50, you STILL might get your nic in VG, because SOME of the PG comes from flavorings.
If you're aiming for 70% PG, then you can get your nic in PG...
Like that...

Some people add Vodka or Water as a thinner in small %.

That is helpful. So my next question, I am only seeing Nic sold as a base mix with the PG/VG already in it. Is there not a way to buy each of the 3 components separately?

ETA: Why is there a place to enter vodka on the eJuice Me Up calculator?? LOL

The first entry, top left, is "what IS your nic base"?
You enter the strength (100 mg for example) AND you enter whether it is PG or VG or some blend. You can buy your nic in blends.

BUT you are ALSO going to ADD PG or VG to get to what you want - to dilute it, and hit the target PG/VG ratio. You don't enter that - that's part of the "answer" you get on the right hand side.

SO you fill in the numbers on the left:
Your source nicotine info
Your target strength
How much your making
And your flavor %'s (from a recipe)
Then click "Calculate" at the bottom right - and the right side tells you how much of each ingredient to put in the bottle.

Ok, so the PG/VG that comes in the base, I assumed that took care of your PG/VG ratios in your mixture. Now I'm confused again! So on the eJuice Me Up calculator, where it says enter your PG and VG, is it talking about the percentage in your nic base, or the extra pg/vg you will add seperately? I assumed it meant the percentage in your pre mixes base. See why I titled this thread DIY for dummies???

In theory you can get nicotine pure without any VG or PG. But 100% nicotine is dangerous stuff. You can't work with it at home, you need to be in a lab with all sorts of safety equipment. I don't think you can even buy it without a license. ECF doesn't allow discussion about using it.

Most people don't buy it at more than 10% concentration (100mg per ml). It is available at 20% and a few people use that.

You can also buy it at less than 100mg. The advantage of going with 100mg is that it takes up less space in your freezer, and it's cheaper to get I liter of 100mg than 5 liters of 20mg, for example.

A lot of people get 100mg, and then dilute some of it down prior to mixing juice. I dilute it down to 10mg. I make 250 ml of diluted base at a time. The numbers are really easy doing that. I use measuring cylinders. 25ml of the concentrated nic and 225 ml of VG. It's a little more arithmetic if you want PG in the mix, calculators make it easy though. The main reason I do that is I don't like using a syringe to measure out high concentration nic, it's very thick and hard to use in a syringe. If you make a 15 ml bottle of juice and you want to end up at 10mg, you would have to measure out around 1.5ml of 100mg nic in a syringe. I find measuring cylinders easier to use.

But I tried numerous techniques before I found a way that worked for me. My advice is just dive in and try it. Once you get familiar with syringes and measuring cylinders and so forth you can decide what you like best.

There is something that new DIYers do sometimes...to get the hang of DIY first, before trying to make recipes with several different flavorings. It also is really easy to make something that's definitely vapable right away...and is super easy to make! What is it they do??

They buy their Nic base in either PG or VG, some plain PG, plain VG, and some of the One Shot flavorings and/or Blends from OSDIY Shop. I never tried them until just very recently, long after I'd already been making many recipes with multiple flavorings, and also coming up with a few of my own. BUT...I'll tell you what - You just use anywhere from about 7%-10% (to suit your own taste) of a blend (like their Lucky Shot), or one of their One Shot single flavorings (like Baked Cinnamon Roll, or Strawberry Milk, or Southern Tea, etc.) in with your PG, VG, and Nic base. Their Lucky Shot and the Baked Cinnamon Roll are both good enough IMO, that they could easily be favorites for me, even though I make more difficult recipes, too! They're truly wonderful...very tasty!

I also started with a sample mix of some Lucky Shot, then added a small amount of TFA Banana Cream to it, and Wow...was it good, too! Next came a sample with Lucky Shot and just a tiny amount of Baked Cinnamon Roll in it, and it's another winner IMO.

So, get your feet wet slowly if you need to. Start with something simple like the above or similar. Before you know it...mixing will be second nature and you'll be loving it!

Find a good ejuice calculator and just plug in the numbers and it will do the math for you.
This is my calculator of choice. See if it is any easier for you. You are not the first person to be confused as a beginner by ejuicemeup. E-Liquid Recipe Name
+1 Great advice.
Need to read and then plug in known results all ready posted.
