So I started into vaping after 7 years off the "coffin nails". Why? Because I saw all the flavors that I was looking for when I use to smoke. I started using a 50/50 PG/VG with 0% nic. juice but I didn't like the rough after tast it left in my throat. So I started looking around and found out that the juice ingrediants were available, for the most part, over the counter. So I gathered together some supplies and started making some juice.
Now all my juices are VG cut with 10% PGA with 2% store bought liquid Splenda and Lorann flavoring. They are all made to 10ML. I made a caramel apple juice that wasn't too bad at 20% flavoring. I just needed to add a little more apple flavoring to it. It was a bit thick but still ran well in my Evod. Then I tryed to make a spearmint juice using the same ingrediants but at 15% flavoring and added a little more VG. Found out that Lorann spearmint is a strong flavoring and my calculations were WAY off. But one of the things that it did was leave a crusty hazy white film on the inside of my Evod. It's almost like calcium build up you see with hard water. It's actually flaking off but I have to scrape at it with a hairpin.
Does anyone know what it is, why it happend, and how I can get it out of my tank?

Thanks

I've had some store-bought juices leave the same kind of film, but it rinses with hot water..in your case I'd concern yourself with that spearmint flavoring in particular..there's a possibility it's a tank-killer that will damage polycarb tanks like the Evod. While I don't see 'Spearmint' on here: E Juice that may break a plastic tanks | Mt Baker Vapor WikiMt Baker Vapor Wiki I just realized I get the same sort of flaky white build-up with their American juice, which is an ADV for me..and now apparently I gotta switch it out of my Evods.. Do a search on Google or ECF for 'spearmint ejuice tank cracker' or similar, there's a thread somewhere on here with a list of known tank-killer flavors but I don't have the link handy, I just know it exists.

ETA: I've been using that 'tank cracker' I mentioned for weeks and not noticed anything bad except for that film, I know the general response is to stop using it if it's causing the plastic to deteriorate or otherwise show any symptoms like that, but for some of us that's not an option..and you can probably get plenty of use out of those tanks still, just expect to replace them in a month or so depending on how bad that particular flavoring eats them. As soon as you start getting any unusual taste, toss the Evod tank itself, head should be useable if it's still working though. May want to look at a Protank/Mini Protank for peace of mind.

Thanks for responding Kellycat,
I'm not sure if my Evod if poly or galss. The areas I've scraped are still very clear so I don't think it's plastic decaying. I've seen that happen. There is no way to get the clowdiness out of it at that point. This is something different. I'm begining to wounder if something I'm using had some kind of food grade wax in it and one of the ingrediants that I'm using, such as the PGA, solidified it?
I'm just woundering if anyone else has had this happen to them with their mixes.
As for the wicks? Well I'm going to try to boil mine to get the spearmint flavoring out of it since everything i put into my Evod at this point tasts like spearmint. That's some strong stuff. I'm thinking about boiling the tank as well. What's the worse that can happen? I would have to go to my local vape store and pick up a new tank for $10?

Thanks again.

High probability it was the spearmint.

First step in a tank being destroyed from juice is the cloudiness. Next is cracking.

Thanks for responding,
The only thing is I think my tank is glass because I can scrape the clowdy film off of the view ports and they will look just fine. Unless the acid in the spearmint was so strong that it melted the plastic in the drip tip that quick, suspended it in the liquid, and it adhered to the sides.
I've tried boiling the tank and the coil assembly. I got most of the tast out of the coil, but it's still going to need to be replaced. The crust in the tank hasn't changed. I still can't get it all out. I think I just ruined my first tank. I might have to see if I can fit a .22cal. cleaning brush down in there to try to scrub it out. Then boil it and soak it in PGA.
I hope people who are thinking of using strong flavorings such as mints, spicy cinnamon (such as in the fireball flavors) and such, as they start into DIY mixes read this thread, learn from my mistake, and start light. Not only that but they may want to keep seprate coil assemblies or maybe even seprate tanks just for these strong flavors.

If your clearo is an Evod, it's poly. They don't make pyrex/borosilicate Evods (yet).

Thanks for the info. It seems that the tanks that are made of Pyrex, aluminum, or stainless all say that they are made of those materials in their respective adds, where as most all the poly ones don't say what they are made of. Oh well, it still works. I just now know that I can't use it for harsh juices.

Evods have a plastic window, and I've had spearmint juice fog a polycarbonite tank in the same manner.

I kept that T3 to test on, so I know which juices of mine will eat through plastic. Anything suspicious goes in a Protank.

I am looking into getting the new Kanger Mini Pro Tank 2 at this point. From what I've seen of it, it's got all the features I've been looking for in a tank system. All glass and stainless, bottom replaceable coil, removable drip tip, and it comes completely apart so you can clean it a lot easier. I just have to wait a little for the supply to meet demand.
