DIY juice question.....please chime in

I recently posted another thread asking about flavor %s for Flavor Apprentice. I had made some strawberry juice at 20% which was way way to high. After reading the Flavor Apprentice thread and reading what some experienced vapers had to say I made a second batch of strawberry at 10%. Taste pretty good, may jump it to 12%. My question is, let us say I'm going to make strawberry vanilla. Do a keep my strawberry at 10% and add vanilla to that % or do I have to subtract from strawberry % by what I add in vanilla?

example. strawberry 10% vanilla 2% = flavor % of juice at 12%

or

strawberry 8% vanilla 2% = flavor % of juice at 10%

As long as I don't over do one flavor, the total % shouldn't matter I guess is a better way to say it?
Thanks,
Joe

I think what you will find the More you use One Makers flavors is they tend to have Relatively the same Strength for each Class of Flavoring.

By this I mean that Most of The Flavor Apprentice (TFA) fruit flavors have about the same strength. Not Everyone of them. But pretty close.

So if I make a TFA Strawberry and the Magic Number for me is 12% Flavorings, then if I want to make Pineapple Strawberry, then my Rule of Thumb is to Keep the Total Combined Flavors at 12%.

Then I just decide which Flavor I want to be the Main Flavor. I'll chose Strawberry. So I might start off with 10% Strawberry and 2% Pineapple and see how it goes.

The same goes for the "Brown" Flavors. Caramel, Chocolates, Butterscotch, etc. But in the "Brown" Flavors there is One Flavor that Tends to Dominate ALL other Flavors even at Small Amounts. And that is Vanilla.

It takes VERY little Vanilla to make a Blend taste like Pour Vanilla. And Adding More of the Other Flavors (exceeding your Magic Number of Total Combined Flavorings) just makes the Mix taste Bad.

If you like Vanilla and want to use it to Mix with Other Flavors like Strawberry, Many find it Easier to Make a 30ml Bottle of Vanilla e-Liquid and Perfect it. The make a 30ml bottle of Strawberry and Perfect it. Then find the Final Mix Ratio of Vanilla to Strawberry by adding a Small amount of the Finished Vanilla e-Liquid into a Empty Bottle and Adding Finished Strawberry e-Liquid, Taste, Add, Taste, Add, Taste until it is what you like.

Of Course, you have to Keep Notes on what you did. Else you will Not Be Able to Replicate it in the Future. But that goes for ALL DIY.

Last Thing, Vanilla is Just that, Vanilla. And By Nature, like Many Flavors, it is NOT Sweet. So when you Think about Vanilla, you should Also think about a Sweetener.

There are Many Pits Falls that people who Do DIY Fall Into. But I think perhaps the Biggest is Not Using Sweeteners. And thinking that their Flavorings are Sweet on their own. Which Many are NOT.

Hope this Helps. And gives you some things to Think about.

Yes, I have ejuicemeup, I just want to know if adding multiple flavors is the total % of flavor ok to go upwards of 20%?

I wouldn't go that High. I would Cap Off the Total Flavoring of TFA Flavors at 10 ~ 15%. Not Including Sweeter.

But YMMV.

I use the recommendations for flavoring only as a guideline. If it calls for 10% I start at 2%. Making 10ml trials is what I try to do and adjust from there. If it is still to strong for my liking I just dilute it down with unflavored nic juice that I always keep on hand. I keep a index card on each experiment and when I have it where I like it.......it makes it to my Evernote. I have been really really pleased with Vaping Zone's gourmet and super concentrated flavorings because you use so much less and the flavors have been outstanding. We are talking drops compared to ml's.

The main thing is to just have fun with it. Good luck to ya and happy experimenting. :)

Hey man, what helped me out alot was checking the ejuice calculator that people save their recipes in, and comparing my amounts and notes to what they already brewed. Also, get a testing setup to just put drop in PG and taste it too for strength. Most flavors that arent too complex dont need that much steeping or steeping at all to get an idea of overall strength.
