With a bit of practice you can make a better flavor. My DIY journey began by mixing two flavors together that I already had (menthol and cherry). After that I got some PG (you can use VG if you like) and ordered some e-juice from Freedomsmokeusa (look for the coupon code on their home page) and had them double the flavor, then I diluted it with my PG to make it twice the volume (now I can vape for $0.65 a day). Then I graduated to making fruit flavors (easy) and fruit flavors with menthol (easy).

The hardest IMO is tobacco flavors -- I must be doing something wrong.

DIY is as easy as mixing a gin and tonic (the gin is the nicotine, the tonic is the PG, and the lime is the flavoring) but you should wear gloves.

There are a lot of videos on youtube, Here's a video:

and here's a good DIY calculator:

I've been DIY'ing since last summer. All my flavorings come from ecigexpress.com and they have about 6 different lines of flavoring (Signature, Flavourart, Loranne, etc.), so chances are they've got what you're craving. Also syringes, bottles, supplies, all the stuff. Cheap, too, except for their nicotine, which is pretty high.

E Cig Liquid, Electronic Cigarette USA

For nic, I get the 100mg/ml from xtremevaping.com (got 125ml in yesterday, as a matter of fact). High quality, clean & pure. Decent prices on base liquids, too (PG and VG).

Xtreme Vaping

Just discovered that Box Elder Chemical Supply is having a sale on nic juice, but I've never ordered from them, so can't attest.

Box Elder Chemical Supply - 500 ML 100 Mg/Ml

If you're wanting to try building your own battery mods, Madvapes has just about anything you need, parts-wise. I've built half a dozen mods from (mostly) their parts, There's a how-to section with plans and discussion as well:

Welcome to MadVapes LLC

Hope that helps!

Oh, in answer to your question... it makes a BIG difference in price. I can make a 30ml bottle of a basic flavor, no frills, at 25mg/ml, for about 7 bucks (not including the bottle). 30ml lasts me about 10 days, give or take, so figure $21 a month for juice. I use mods, so the generic batteries are cheap, and if you shop around for carto or atty deals... well, you can vape for very little money. I figure my entire monthly costs at ~$43-45 per month (down from $200+ for my analogs).

For me, I've only been at it for a couple of months, and I'm not saving very much money right now. But I'm a collector, sooooo, I'm having a great time gathering all the different flavors. I'm now thinking about making my own perfume :) But what I will add from my personal experience is that I have made all my favorite flavors from popular vendors and at a strength of flavor that suits ME, and I will never be out. I buy my nic from voidmist when they have one of their sales and that will last a good while. I REALLY ENJOY gathering recipes and tweaking them with my own personal spin.
Also wanted to add that I now use mostly Ecigexpress, and have made several orders to Flavor Apprentience, and one to Capillas.

There is also myfreedomesmokes.com and nicvape.com (currently the cheapest place I know of for nic juice).

It is cheaper, but beware... it can become expensive. If you have a problem with wanting to buy every flavor juice you see, DIY could end up being a very expensive endeavor... now instead of buying every juice you see, you're buying every flavoring you can find and mixing up some really disgusting concoctions. I have tons and tons of supplies, but found something I like and that's mostly all I mix now (thankfully).

I have a question along the same line. I am in the process of buying juice and would like about 13 -15 mg of nic. If I buy premade 30 mg. juice can I dilute it 50 % or would it not have any flavor at all? Or would it be better to buy 18mg and just dilute it a little? Probably a dumb question but I just got started a few days ago and don't know what I'm doing yet LOL.

I don't personally know the answer, but it's not a dumb question. I would think you'd dilute it but I can't say because I haven't tried it.

It will definitely dilute the flavor as well as the nic content. Sometimes you can order double flavor if you know you're going to dilute it. Also, Tasty Vapor has what they call "doublers" which is flavored juice without any nicotine. You can buy a regular flavor from them (with nicotine) at a high nic content (say 48%) then "cut" it by adding the same flavor of doubler....no nic juice. Saves lots of money if you have a favorite flavor of theirs.

I have not tried doublers yet but it makes sense especially if flavor is a big deal to you,
(somedays i just don't care/taste much)

... I diy my base (18mg) from 100mg vg ...
& have learned that it is easy to adjust 18mg down a little with flavoring & extras...
so I end out with something in the 14.5mg-15mg range ...

...when I order pre-made flavored juice's I always order
18 mg w/double flavor (if available) & add a little vg to it to get to the lower nic level *...

my favorite for example is 8ml 18mg + 2ml vg = 10ml 15mg*
I like the whole # route better than all the 1.4ml type measuring ,not very scientific or precise, but works for me

Play with the juice calculator for awhile & you'll figure out what works for you .......

*approx.probably a little lower, which is ok & does not change flavor much

ooops did not mean to hyjack post , in answer to 1st ? the diy forums are wealth of knowledge & look in to joining the PIF group , as you collect more stuff... that is a great place to trade stuff & try new stuff.

I make 15mg juice. I buy 60 mg juice and dilute it with a 1:3 ratio with VG. I ordered a empty 60 ml bottle from MFS and I put 1 TBS of Nic juice and 3 TBS of VG and viol'a! That makes 60 ml of 15 mg nic juice and I have to make it every 3 weeks or so. I add the flavoring to the lil 6 ml bottles I carry with me. My method is unusual but it's nice to not have to measure things every day to make juice:)
If you need help, ask on the DIY forums here:)

As previously mentioned by others, the DIY route can initially add expense to your vaping budget. For the cost however you will significantly increase the variety of flavors in your repertoire. I would have spent much more trying far fewer flavors than DIY made available not to mention the the fun of putting on your mad alchemist hat and inventing recipes and concoctions. I usually mix new recipes in small batches using plain VG/PG base so the R&D costs are minimized.

My favorite juice ends up costing 22 cents per ml to mix at 20% flavor 2.4% nic. That price could be brought down slightly buying constituent parts in bulk. So ultimately you can save money vs. buying premade. But the fun is in the journey.
