I would like to buy a DIY kit for a beginner. Probably just a box mod or a flashlight type. Including all the parts and instructions, maybe even a cd with video. All parts clearly named with where to get them.

Then perhaps future, more difficult kits. A kit of the month club!

Because I think I could have a lot of fun making these things, and I can't keep up with it all, it blows my mind.

I can't tell, but it looks like the classes idea is not going so well. Perhaps people who make these things don't have the personality or the time to lead a class. But I could follow instructions with a kit.

Good idea?

i could put 1 together for you the big problem is the atty connector. there's ways to make them and i think there are ways to buy them and if you have a dead battery that is the best way. there are videos on you tube that would tell you how and what you need.

here is a link to one i put up a tut for ( page 2 ) http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/battery-mods/41398-best-5v-mini-usb-pass-through.html

i mixed up the left and the right wires the left one is ground and it wont let me edit that post.

I like the idea of a "kit of the month" thing. I found myself needing/wanting a mod because of battery life, juice life, etc on my 702's. I also feel a bit overwhelmed by all the info posted in the forums about the different mods. I would probably just try one if I could find a mod for the 702 atties, but it seems that almost all mods are based on the 501, 801 or 901 atty.

If someone had a "mod kit" that included everything needed (i.e. battery, atty, housing, etc) and build instructions, I would be all over that.

As far as mod kits go, I was thinking of doing something like that. Making it available in mass is difficult. I am not rich and I don't have tons of time or anything. I can see being able to make a few though. Mine would be of the more complex nature though. Trust me when i say nothing about these things is difficult. If you were given all of the pieces and just had to put them in place you could do it.

These big battery mods get me though. I don't understand.

I did my first mod out of necessity because I left my battery charger @ work one day.

battery of choice
old unused wall charger from an old cell phone (for wires)
masking tape

cut a length of wire from the charger, expose some wire at each end. You should have 2 wires. Attach one end with masking tape to the (-) negative terminal of the battery. do the same for the other wire. So you should have 2 separate wires, one attached to the (-) and one to the (+). My wire was exactly the size of the hole on the atomizer so I pushed it in and it secured itself. I then touched the other wire to the outer section of the atomizer (where the battery connects). this was my vaporizer for one evening and the next morning until I got to work. It was a pain (not really I guess it depends on how much you like to complain) to touch the wire to the atomizer every time I wanted to take a hit, but I got used to it.

So that was my pain in the buttox 4.2volt "big battery" mod. i put the battery in my front pocketand the atomizer was dangling out along with the other wire. when I wanted to vape I would put the atty in my mouth and grab the wire.

What interest would there be in a kit that contained something like this.

5 1.35 inch lengths of nicrome wire

6" section of silicate fire wick

Color coded Copper wiring

Wire terminals / connectors

Ceramic Wire nut with predrilled holes. Holes are for power connections (2) @ top of nut and for liquid (larger hole @ bottom of nut).

A silicone sleeve. This is stretchable and heat resistant up to 297 degrees Celcius (just dont leave the dang atomizer running for more than 10 seconds duh).

Another sillicone housing. This is where you would put everything and run wires out from the atomizer. Has a spot for up to an 18650 battery. You provide the battery.

Magnets Used to keep the housing closed (not 100% this is best method)

10ml juice bottle no cap or inner cap, just the bottle. big hole, no dropper.
Instructions (ROUGH, would also include pics or video):

Take the nicrome wire and wind it around a ~4.5mm section of fire wick. make sure to leave straight sections at the ends of the wire and make sure that the wire does not touch itself anywhere.

Take the Ceramic wire nut and slide it into the silicone sleeve so that marked holes line up.

Get (2) wire terminal (A) and 2 copper wires (B;Red, C;Black). Attach copper wire to one end of the nichrome coil you just made with wire terminal. Do the same on the other side.

Slide the red copper wire through top slot of ceramic wire nut. Do the same to the opposite hole on the wire nut for the black wire. At this point the nichrome wire should be suspended in the ceramic wire nut.

Get 2 wire terminals (B) and while pulling slightly on the red copper wire attach the terminal to the outside of the silicon sleeve where the wire exits the sleeve. Do the same for the black wire.

You can now test your work by placing the black wire on the (-) negative terminal of your battery, then the red wire on the (+) terminal. As soon as the (+) terminal is touched to the battery you should see the nichrome get hot. Do not have your hands or anything near the dang coil (duh).

Take the 10ml juice bottle and fill it with your vaporizing liquid. Shove the top section into the bottom of the atomizer housings silicone sleeve until the bottom of the sleeve is at the line marked on the bottle. Hold silicone sleeve upright and squeeze the juice bottle slowly. You should see juice start to flow up to the atomizer. When you take pressure back off the sleeve the juice will flow back down.

<put rest together blah blah blah>

I would love this. I do have questions. What is the best combination of mAh to ohm and what voltage would make battery last longest and vapor thicken up? I am going to do a mod, club or not. :(

I'd like it to be all metal if this makes a difference other than looks. Simply because my family owns a metal mill so making replacement part would take a few minutes.

A good starter mod would be a single battery mod. Only a couple of wires to connect, a few holes to drill... and minimal soldering.

Milliamp-hours (mAh) is a measurement of battery capacity and does not affect the quantity/quality of the vapor produced, only how long you can go between recharging. The real measurement of how well an atty will perform is wattage, which is directly affected by both atty resistance and battery voltage. Battery max discharge rate also plays a role, but most batteries have about the same rate, so it's not as much of a variable. You can use this chart to determine the wattage of a given battery/atty combination.

As for what wattage is ideal, that's a matter of personal preference. Some people swear by high power (10-12W) vaping, while others prefer a more mild vape.
