DIY Mod w/3.75v,30w,.25ohm coil. Is this safe

I probably have this in the wrong forum so please move it if it is. I been vaping over 3 yrs and I can never seem to get my post in the right catagory.

My buddy builds his own boxes, they're more or less a case with a battery and on/off switch, nothing more. Tonight he showed me a handcrafted beautiful checker board wood box and the ohm coil he said he was using I felt was not safe with the battery. He knows all about electronics so maybe it is, I have no idea. I use straight batteries with my coils and use a chart to match my coil ohms with battery volts. And it shows a 3.75 volt battery should not use a coil less than 1.7ohms.

It has no electronics in it its a straight battery setup. He said he is using a .25ohm coil. I said with a 3.75 volt battery you shouldn't use that low of a ohm coil. I don't understand all the electronical stuff all I know is with a standard battery thats 3.75 volts you shouldn't use a sub ohm coil according to the chart.

He said his battery is 3.75v and 30 watts. My question is, is he vaping safe when hes using a 3.75v 30w battery on a .25ohm coil. this is the chart I go by.

That chart is old. It is used for high gauge high ohm ce4 clearomizers. With today's coils, you can easily run those voltages through it, because the wire is thicker.

When you say high gauge do you mean 32, 34, or higher? I use 32g and I can make a 1.8, 2.0, or higher ohm from it or I can make a subohm less than 1ohm. years back people made their own coils out of all sizes of wire, same as today so does wire thichness really have anything to do with it. Its the ohms I'm talking about not wire thickness. Ohms is ohms no matter the wire thickness. a .25 ohm coil is a .25 ohm coil no mater the wire thickness.

You can make a .25ohm coil out of allot of different wire thicknesses. So is a .25 ohm coil safe to run with a 3.75volt 30 watt battery.

Technically you're correct, but a 0.25 ohm coil made with 28-30 awg(which you can't even pull off, but for the sake of this example) would require a whole lot less volts to heat up, compared to a 0.25 ohm coil made from 22-24awg wire. Thicker wire needs more energy to heat up to produce a sufficient amount of Vapor.

I don't know what gauge of wire he used, never thought to ask him that. But useing to low ohms coil can damage a battery, right? I ask him how he knew the watts, he said you used a formula so he knows way more than I do about ohms, volts, and watts. I been vaping a while but I'm no electronics expert, all I have to go by is the chart when I make coils. Thats what I go by, if there is a upgraded chart where lower ohms coils can be used then please post the link.

You've got it wrong. That chart is a rough estimate of how much power coils can use without popping/burning the liquid, and it's for clearos from years ago. What you need to care about is battery safety. Be aware of what the continuous discharge rating of the battery is, and use an ohms law calculator to make sure that the coil doesn't exceed that limit. If all of that sounds unfamiliar, lay off the mechs until reading up on it.

As stated that chart is very old and was designed as a guide.

The gear today is light years ahead of the older tech.

Im gonna repeat what you have heard for 3 years:
Learn a bit about ohms law and how it relates to vaping. Charts are dangerous.
Read some tutorials on building coils.

I run a. 24 ohm parallel coils on mechanical single 18650 safely every day.
.24 ohms @3.7v is 15.4 amps on a 20a cell.
Safe.

Know your gear
