DIY Nicotine with Skoal..

I have a mixture of Skoal Apple tobacco, and distilled water on the stove now. The house smells like a tobacco farm! I brought it to a low boil, and then removed it from the heat source... I will let that sit for most of the day, and then strain it through a coffee filter. I buy my VG by the gallon (Kosher VG only) for $42.00 per gallon. I have found it for as low as $11.00 per gallon, but it's the 99% USP - not 100%. It should be here by Monday - I hope!

I know you can extract the pure nicotine by boiling off all of the water, but I'm not comfortable with the proper mixture when dealing with pure nicotine...

Okay... Couldn't wait. I was able to fill 3 x 15 ml bottles with the Apple Skoal extract. I filtered it through a non-scented paper towel. I figured since Skoal is a quick-release tobacco, and has a higher nicotine content than that of cigarettes, I wouldn't need to wait as long. What I've ended-up with is wonderful! I mixed the extract with some spare VG, and some Loranne carmel flavoring. Carmel apples anyone? The tobacco flavor is tremendous too!

I may end-up boiling the Skoal down inside a coffee filter. I will then remove the "bag" before boiling the extract all the way down to pure nicotine. I will then pour in my VG (no PG) to avoid having to retrieve the pure nicotine from the pot. This will be the "premix" so to speak... I can then add some distilled water and additional flavoring. The problem with the "tea-bag" method is knowing just how concentrated the nicotine is prior to mixing the VG?

NEVER LET PURE NICOTINE COME INTO CONTACT WITH YOUR BODY. IT IS EXTREMELY POISONOUS!

Just a little note, you won't be able to extract PURE nicotine from any form of tobacco in your home. It you can still taste the flavor and it has color, it's nowhere near pure.

I'm curious what strength this yields too.

im suprised you dont get any of the harmful chemicals from the tobacco using this method?!?!?!?!!?!?

Tobacco by itself isn't that bad, it's when you burn it/add bunches of chemicals to it that it becomes horrible for you. Snus are a much better option to extract nicotine from, but skoal will still get the job done.

You won't boil down to nicotine, you'll boil down to a lot of plant material and a little nicotine (perhaps) mixed in.

Sorry to say, your product is going to be what us chemists refer to in the technical jargon as "goo".

I recently posted a blog entry about the inherent difficulties/impracticalities of attempting various soak procedures for getting at nicotine. The problem is simply one of matrix.

It's quite involved and difficult. Specialized procedures and knowledge are required. Pretty much, it takes a chemist to separate nicotine/alkaloids from tobacco. Could I teach a non-chemist to do it? Probably. Could a non-chemist figure it out on his own? Probably. Would I vape the results of that persons work? Not on my life.

Tobacco extractions into PG, alcohol, etc are generally good for adding flavor assuming you like the result. But as for nicotine, eliquid is easy enough to purchase and it's not terribly expensive.

I'm now heating up my VG with the snus packets, and then mixing it with PG, Everclear, and flavoring. I just don't know how much nicotine is actually getting into the VG?
