i have a juice that smells of pure ashtray. i've tried to repair it with various flavourings but nothing seems to mask the taste.
so far i have mainly used sweetening flavours (caramel, maple syrup, even my beloved ethyl maltol!!) and all i get is caramel ashtray, maple syrup ashtray.... you get the picture. even peppermint gets spoilt.

has anyone else had any success with killing this kind of taste and turning it around?

am i taking the wrong approach trying to sweeten it up? i dont even particularly want it sweet, more just neutralised so it can at least be a decent base.

normally i wouldnt be too bothered but i happened to get a 50ml bottle of the stuff so i'd like to salvage something.

any input would be appreciated, apologies if i dont immediately reply but i'm off to bed after a night shift!!!

Do I take it that this juice is an unflavoured one? if so, the ashtray flavour is odd, but can be what is tasted from a strong nicotine base...

So we need to know, flavour and strength.

If its a tobacco flavour, there are very few things you can do to change a deep tobacco flavour, other than adding menthol, which can virtually dominate any flavour out there.

EM is more for aroma and the delicate candy floss but its never good to add too much.

Flavourings need to be less than 25% of the total.

"ashtray" I associate with a high level of Tobacco Absolute, from whatever source. In that case best thing I know of is to really dilute it, mix with a significant amount of another tobacco eliquid that doesn't have a lot of TA. In other words, take a couple of ml of ashtray, mix with a couple ml of another tobacco eliquid (as in a full eliquid, with tobacco flavor and nicotine), shake and try.

(TA is easy to really overshoot.)

Cat, its not unflavoured, I find them quite metallic and i have little trouble mixing with that.
Its one of the RY's which surprised me as they are normally more sweet, but this one is dominated by this as tray taste.
Won't mention the vendor because I use them quite a lot and just think I made a bad choice with this one!
Its 24mg, which is my usual strength, so no worries there.

Mark, I have a couple of basic tobacco flavors so will try your suggestion when I get a bit of time.

Martin, I have read a thread about vinegar and such. Is your suggestion to balance the ph?
Will jif lemon (in the lemon shaped bottle) do the trick?
And i only have malt vinegar. Would that be ok?

Thanks all!!!

I tend to buy my Menthol Crystals on Ebay Colkaz.
As my local Chemists don't seem to stock them, but they are available and from
some Superdrug branchesI understand . . . guess it very much depends on your
' local ' . . . but here's a link to one of the many sellers on Ebay.

10g MENTHOL CRYSTALS EJ METNA PHOOL PUJA POOJA PRODUCT | eBay

They are very potent, so use with that in mind . . . after handling I'd be sure to wash your hands.

If you're still looking for a ' sweeter ' type of flavouring to mask a DIY disaster, I can
recommend TPA's Tiramisu . . . it's pretty intense and has got me out of a few mixing
malfunctions. :D
