DIY Vanilla

Sorry if this question has been answered elsewhere. If it has been; I haven't found it. Does anyone infuse their own Vanilla? If so what is your usage rate?

I know I have read this somewhere on ecf but can't find it at the moment. I remember reading where you could take 5 vanilla beans and slit them open and put them in a bottle of pg or vg I suppose. It seems like it took several weeks. I also think you can put it in PGA (pure grain alcohol) like Everclear and do the same thing. I have used Everclear and some flavored vodka to add a bit of throat hit to my atomizer. Maybe someone will come along and have the thread that I read that in. I'm sure it was under the DIY section. Have you read in the natural extractions threads? I'm sure someone there has tried. Fascinating stuff they're doing!

You can do it in VG, but the concentration is just not enough to come through, just like vanilla extracts you can get at the grocery are not concentrated enough.

Maybe if you used PGA you could then evaporate the alcohol...
