When I placed my last order, I spoke w/ Dawn @ DIYflavorshack and told her about my search for a "true tobacco" flavor. I expressed how every tobacco flavor that I've tried either tasted like pipe tobacco or a wet ash tray. All the "import/china" flavors come off with a wet ashy tray taste.. the RY4's from Dekang, to a couple juices I tried from another chinese maker. On the RY4 subject, of the 3-4 variations that I've tried I prefer the Caramel RY4 that Dawn makes.. but even this has a more pipe tobacco taste than a cigarette tobacco taste. To make a long story short, I asked Dawn to send me a tobacco sampler, to which she happily obliged and asked for my thoughts in return.
For reference: I was a pack a day smoker of Camel Light 99's (Box), I was smoking these for 5 years, before that I smoked Camel Menthol Light's (short box) as well as Newports, I started my smoking career at the age of 17 and I started smoking w/ Marlboro Lights (short box)
So that being said, here are my thoughts on 5 different Tobacco flavors from DIYflavorshack.com, seeing as there are 5 flavors being reviewed I'll try to keep it short using a 1-10 scale w/ a brief description after the scale scores.
Juices: All "Medium" Nic Content.
MarlyB , 555 Smooth , Dunhill , Honey Flu Cured , Winston
Device Used: 5v 510 PT
To ensure the least amount of flavor compromise and in light of the fact I dont have 5 brand new atomizers to use for this, I used a Single Atomizer for all flavors, i flushed the atty out with a 50/50 VG/PG Mix, blew it out, and flushed it again with the flavor to be vaped, blew it out and then dropped 4 drops, vaped them off inhaling all, and redripped 4 more drops and vaped off.. moved on to next juice... rinse/repeat. I did this once through all flavors, and as im writing/scoring each flavor, im vaping in my atty for a current "off the top my head" opinion.
555 Smooth: TH: 7
Vapor Production: 8
Flavor: 8
Smell/Scent: 7
Description: This Juice reminds me of what a fresh opened pack of cigarettes smells like. As in, open a pack, put your nose to it and take a big whiff, that nice robust, rich/sweet tobacco smell. It also taste like this. It doesn't taste like a cig once you put a flame to it, but it does taste and smell like a fresh cig. Im also getting a very very light sweet nuttiness taste.. its very very subtle and im not sure im even doing this undertone description justice by saying that, but that's what its bringing to mind.
MarlyB: TH: 6
Vapor Production: 8
Flavor: 9
Smell/Scent: 9
Description: Of the 5, this one holds the "truest" tobacco flavor for "ME". This one is stronger than the 555, has the closest aftertaste and inhale taste to my trusty Camel lights. Im not getting any complimenting flavors along with this one, just pure straight up tobacco.
Dunhill: TH: 5
Vapor Production: 6
Flavor: 5
Smell/Scent: 4
Description: This one is very light, tobacco taste is very subtle. vapor production and TH are both lacking a bit and may be connected to one another. There is a very awkward taste in this for "ME" I cannot put my finger on it, but its not very enjoyable and further more not being able to identify it is unsettling me.
Honey Flu Cured: (I was apprehensive trying this one.. after all being "flu" cured concerned me!
) Spell checker is our friend Dawn....
TH: 8
Vapor Production: 8 (id like to see this juice a bit thicker)
Flavor: 10
Smell/Scent: 10
Description: This juice is damn tastey... very flavorful. Ive personally never smoked flue cured tobacco so i cannot account for its flavor accuracy, but i will repeat: it taste delicious. The Tobacco taste is strong and full... no wet ash tray taste, just a nice rich sweet tobacco.. the Honey component is also very prominent in this mix... its very sweet, and a nice calming sweetness. I really really like this one. I also want to point out the smell in my media room from this juice is bloody awesome!
Winston: TH: 7
Vapor Production: 7 (could be a bit thicker)
Flavor: 7
Smell/Scent: 6
Description: This one is pretty similar to the MarlyB, only lighter in all aspects.
And the Winner is....... Its a technicality TIE:
Marly B vs. Honey Flu(e) Cured
and folks I gotta tell you, it was really really hard to call this one... why? you ask... because i asked for a "true tobacco" flavor, and I 100% got what I asked for in MarlyB. However, I was surprised with the gift that is Honey Flue Cured... This juice is simply spectacular. Its sooo tastey, its sweet, its tobacco.. its just delicious. So its hard for me to declare MarlyB the winner because although it did meet and exceed my requirements for tobacco flavor,,, Honey Flue Cured trumps it. So that being said It's only fair to declare them both winners with my preference being on Honey Flue Cured.
So there you Have it, my thoughts on 5 different Tobacco flavors from DIYFS. Enjoy and I hope this helps YOU in YOUR quest to crush an analog craving.
