DNA stuck in OFF mode

I want to preface this with saying that I read the DNA40 EVOLVE DATASHEET However, although I looked through for an answer, I couldn't find one. To ensure I had not missed something, I used keyword searching as well within the document.

My DNA40 device is not responding to commands at the moment, and while it fires fine it is locked at 40 Watts and "OFF" is displayed on the screen. The screen is staying on, and not going to sleep. I'm unable based on the information contained in the DNA40 Datasheet to rectify this situation.

So I had a couple of questions hoping that this may have been encountered before.

1.) Can you reset a DNA40 with a button combination? Press a button at startup?

2.) How long will the onboard memory stay, without power to supply the chip?

Thank you so much for taking a moment to read this !

DNA 40's don't use Escribe.
I see that..

But anyways, to be actually useful.. from the manual:

Locked mode:
Pressing the fire button five times with less than .7 seconds between presses will cause the device to enter Locked mode. In Locked mode, the device will not fire and the output power will not adjust accidentally. While in Locked mode, the screen will be off, except that pressing a button will show“Locked, Click 5X”. To exit Locked mode, press the fire button 5 times.

and if that's not it:

Power Locked mode:
Holding down both the up and down buttons for two seconds will place the device in Power Locked mode.
In this mode, the mod will operate normally, but you will not be able to change the power setting. This mode prevents accidental power level changes due to the buttons being pressed while in a pocket. To exit Power Locked mode, hold the up and down buttons for two seconds.

I tried that, still did not work...
Thanks for your help

Sadly, the more I look into the DNA 40, the more I find information that it's a pretty crappy chip with lots of various issues, and I guess you've hit one.

You should get in touch with Evolv directly and see if they'll offer a fix/exchange or anything.

I have left message to Evolv, have not heard from them yet.

I have come to the conclusion that I will just start buying clones. and get away from these authentics

I don't blame you.

I have one DNA (75) device and that came without the settings being right... took me days (LOTS of swearing) to get the TC settings for SS316 "acceptable". I got this mod to have some experience with DNA mods and see what the fuss was all about.

Note that it's a very nice and solid device (Therion DNA75) but I won't be buying another DNA device, as while the Escribe software can be somewhat fun to play with and the monitoring cute to look at, compared to all my other mods (over a dozen of them) that were all good to go right out of the box, plus that the TC is NOT as different as so many DNA fans make it out to be, at least, not to me.

And I found that for something that's supposed to be this great, the information is very limited and not very straightforward.

If there's one more thing I'll complain about is that the interface, unless you're using Escribe to change things, is a serious pain to use... I might not switch lots of stuff around, but at least, all the Chinese mods I can figure out easily as they almost all use the same approach, while the DNA, I've had to go back to the instructions to see what button combination does what. Basically, it failed completely to amaze and impress me in every way, heck, compared to the non-headache mods I have, if not for the quality of the actual box and the money spent, I'd barely use it... right now I've made it my "sitting at home mod" as the battery life is sub-par.

Sorry you're having bad luck. Personally, I've had no less than 40 mods with evolv chips....From the DNA 20 to the 200 and everything in between. Of all of those, I had one wonkie screen issue on a DNA 40. They knew of the problem and swapped the board, no questions asked. Never an issue with any of the others.

That being said, I've gone back to mechs mainly. They're just easier and, to me, they make better squonkers than regulated.

If I wind up going back to regulated stuff, it will be evolv or dicodes chip sets.

Same here asbestos, I only had one problem and they switched out boards. I have made countless mods, and sometimes had to desolder/resolder them, putting them through hell and they still worked somehow. If you search evolv forums and post a thread about the issue, someone should be able to help, as there is a ton of very electronically adapt people there. (not saying there isnt here!)

They definitely had big issues with screen glitches on the first batch or two. I've had (and still have) some that would lock the screen up with gibberish on the screen. Still vaped and Evolv replaced them all under warranty. For their part, they did introduce temperature control to us with the DNA 40, although it was that unworkable Ni wire. Every chip since the early DNA 40's has been rock solid.

Sorry...Everytime I see this thread title, I think to myself "cycle the switch to ON mode."
In my service days, I had a pilot come back with a broke radar. He wrote in the forms "radar will not work in OFF mode" . In the corrective action block, I wrote "switch to ON mode". I thought it was hilarious ...As did a few others. I just don't think he was ready for my cutting edge wit.
(I knew he meant 'IFF' which means Identification Friend or Foe....But then it wouldn't have been as funny)
