So I am hearing the DNA20 chip/mod has been cloned. So I am thinking of getting a device that uses it.

What can you tell newbie like myself about the DNA20?

Why do I need one?

What are the benefits?

What are the shortcomings (i.e. compared to a vv/vw device like the Vamo)?

Will it tell me my future?:)

It's an advanced PV board which allows an extended performance envelope. You "need" one if you want the best production regulated device available. The benefits are it allows you to vape, and it provides extended performance if you want it. The shortcoming vs any Chinese device is price.

It has told me the future, but what it tells you depends on what you use it to figure out. :)

Btw the "clone" looks to be a long way from a real DNA20. It looks more like a vamo or SVD with a higher amp switch.

Evolv is the company that developed vw technology for vaping devices. KickII and DNA20 are Evolv's latest products.

The vv/vw devices that have come out of China are far different in accuracy and ability to perform at whatever voltage or wattage level one chooses. I know of none that maintain consistent power regulation even close to Evolv's vw products.

Don't expect the result's shown in PBusardo's review out of the so called "clones". This latest is certainly not a clone, and not even a cheap copy. It is a marketing scheme with a chip that appears a bit different than the batch that was made last year...ie Vamo.

Why DNA20? For the best VW chip made to date & fantastic display. And, that's not just a fanboi opinion. :)

Why dna 20 clone? It can be fun to try new devices and this one might have a bit more range than earlier versions.

All functions on screen is very nice. No frustrating going threw the menus.

That is nice. I would prefer it to run at lower voltage, but I think might need to look at them. So far, there isn't much of selection. I tried to get a board a few times, but they were always sold out.

Folks should be aware that the DNA20 does not detect reverse polarity on your mod. In other words, if you stick the battery in backwards, bad things are going to happen rather quickly. While most of us pay attention to how we insert our batteries, it would be fairly easy to make a mistake (especially in a reduced lighting environment) and end up with a vented battery and trashed mod.

So benefits of the DNA20:

1. Can go up to 20 watts (not 15 like most)
2. Watts increment in .1 rather than .5 like my Vamo.
3. Can fire sub ohm coils
4. Righty/lefty display mode

A few more:
- It can go up to ~8v (this is one of its biggest benefits)
- The UI packs a lot of information onto the OLED at once
- Smooth output (225khz switching plus output filtering)

As far as I've seen, the only thing that happens is the board dies very quickly. No issue with the battery or mod itself. It is up to the modder to deal with polarity in some way, or rely on the user.

PBusardo did a review of a DNA20 mod recently and put the battery in backwards. Things got VERY hot in a hurry.

Right but you don't know 1) how much is the mod's specific behavior with that situation and 2) how the situation would have progressed. No one I know of has destroyed a battery or a mod reversing polarity on a DNA20. Several have destroyed the board, which sucks, but to say it will vent your battery and destroy your mod is unfounded.

If the board is fried, the mod is destroyed. Therefore, true statement. Seriously, you need to stop nitpicking in every thread you participate in.

Your statement implied the battery would vent and destroy the mod. But regardless, the board dying -- particularly with a modder board -- does not constitute a destroyed mod. It's broken, sure, but the replacement board is eminently available and you know who made it in the first place.

This is not a nitpick. This is the reality of the DNA20. These are not found in disposable mods.
