Do cartomizers and atomizers require dry burning too?

I currently use the vivi nova and I like the fact that I can vape a day or two without refilling the juice. The only disadvantage is that I have to clean the head (clean, dry burning) after a tank or two or else it will taste burnt.

But I know there are other options out there. Do cartomizers/attys require dry burning as well to clean? Thanks

I don't use cartos but to my limited knowledge you do not want to dry burn one. If you want to clean it you will need to boil it. As for attys, you can dry burn but if you are not careful you will pop the coil. Soak it in vodka instead to remove the gunk build up.

EDIT - I use a Nova Mini and I do not dry burn the head after cleaning. I have a couple of these in rotation and I just refill a previously cleaned one as soon as I clean my current one. That way I can give the cleaned one 24 hours or more to dry. No dry burn needed and I have yet to be left without a tank to vape.

Attys need a dry burn as maintenance to keep them performing well. But it's not like with your tank - the atty won't taste burnt or harsh if you don't do it. It's just that the vapor production will drop off the more the atty get gunked up with use. Dry burning helps to restore the performance.

Practically speaking cartos cannot be dry burned. As folks have already said if you try that with a carto it will burn the filler, rendering it nasty and useless. I have seen posts of people doing heroic things to clean and dry burn a carto - including complete disasembly, removing filler, dry burning, washing and drying filler and then reassembling the whole thing. But... really? Certainly not worth it if you do a cost/value analysis.

Never take a brush or anything else to a coil. Don't even blow on it while it is red hot. Any misalignment of the coil wraps can cause hot spots or even shorting out.

How about taking the coil out and putting a flame to it? Might that burn the crud off faster and more efficiently than the dry burn? I mean, every time I dry burn, it takes a some time to thoroughly clean it and it seems very draining on the battery.

DO NOT dry burn cartomizers...ewwww...that would be nasty. However, you can dry burn atty's without any problems but do it in short bursts.

I have never dry burned my attys. in fact I don't clean them (with a denture tablet) until they aren't working well, usually after several months of use. but I mostly vape clear or almost clear liquids

ps, that is when I do clean them it is with a denture tablet

I don't dry burn either. I just clean w/distilled water warmed up or cheap vodka. I'm gonna try the denture tabet.

And I use 100% VG!

There's a you tube somewhere of a guy who never dry burns an atty, has never killed one and I think when I watched it he was 14 weeks and still going strong......maybe more.

Seriously?

Between the tooth brush idea and this it really sounds like you have no idea what you're doing when it comes to cleaning stuff.

Just thought it might burn off the gunk on the coil without draining the battery. Just the coil itself and maybe the wick (silica can't burn), not the whole head.
