If you're vaping too hard (taking fast draws, or long draws), the wicks sometimes don't have enough time to absorb the e-juice. This can lead to a burnt taste.

Unless I'm completely misunderstanding the concept, dry burning is used as a cleaning technique to burn off remaining flavors after cleaning a clearo/carto/etc. So, no, I wouldn't think the dry burning "fixed" you particular problem.

Most people dry burn by taking the stem off and the flavor wicks off but I've found that unless it's really gunked up you can just as easily dry burn leaving the stem on. You can look through the hole in the stem to see if it is glowing red. I know this doesn't answer your original question but might help with future dry burning.

If you were drying out the wick you may very well have ended up gunking up the coil, and yes that gunk can taste burnt. Dark and/or sweet juices will gunk up a coil pretty quickly so if you were hitting hard that's probably what happened. If you cleaned and dry burned and the burnt taste went away then yes you fixed it. :)

sweet liquids put a layer of gunk on the coils after a while, dark liquids also do this, but as one poster commented above, take a slower inhale to let the liquid get to the wicks, also you can take a sharp hit (not pressing the button) to help the process. make sure you clean your coil and wick almost once a week, this will make sure they last longer as well
