Do coils wear out without going out?

Using a protank 2 on a vision spinner II.

The coils are now about 5-6 months old (there are six of them) and they get cleaned and dry burned after about a week or two of use. Basically once I get all five ready to clean I put them in hot water to soak, then dryburn, then reassemble with a new top wick.

Lately temperature and level seem to have a dramatic effect on them. If I hold the tank and allow my hand to warm it up, and if it's topped off, and voltage set to about 4.3 I get the perfect hit. It seems that the lower the temp or the lower the fluid level the lower I have to set the voltage to get a good hit. Many times it seems as if it is too hot because I get the burned back of the throat action.

These coils have all been washed and burned A LOT. Is it possible that their properties have changed? New coils are all pretty consistent in that they work for a couple of weeks really good before needing a cleaning.

I am wondering if I shouldn't just toss the lot of them and buy a new five pack.

Thoughts?

5-6 months? Good lord! Good job, I wouldn't be questioning them at all, those are some hard-working little dudes you've got there. I'd just give them a respectful burial and grab a new 5 pack.

After all of the Kangers, Aspires, Innokin, Halo, blah blah clearomizers I've ever used I've actually never had one literally "die", as in, burn out or completely stop functioning. They just kind of noticeably taper off in performance, vapor production, flavor, get hot to the touch faster, and then I just toss them and replace. So I'd just be happy they lasted so long and replace them.

I agree, great job on your coil maintenance! If you are getting burnt hits when the tank is not full try using less for the top wicks. I always pulled one from my new pt2 heads because I vape higher vg juice which would require me to prime it a lot more if I left both top wicks.

I've tried replacing the wicks in the Smok coils for the SMOK brand by Smoktech tanks here after the initial soaking in denture clearner if not Oxyclean which can also be used on stubbort stains in coffee urns no less! With some the rewick will prolong the inevitable demise however since those coils are only supposed to be good for a max of two weeks of continuous use. I buy 40 replacement coils at a bulk price a year ago and still have more then half of the spares left despite nearly two dozen batteries and mods since I don't just one all the time! But they still wear ou;t and a good number have been tossed!

Dry burning after soaking?? Not advised for each and every coli only when you need to swap a coil for a fresh one when in a hurry since that can dry burn the wick material resulting in burn spots and hot hits! The old style long wicked top coiled clearomizers being a great example of that problem! A battery or mod needing to be recharged or a battery no longer holding a good charge will result in seeing hot vapes as well when no longer able to fully turn all ejuice in the coil into vapor.

After nearly 2 1/2yrs. of vaping I am only lately getting into the best tanks presently being seen out namely by Aspire with coils that last! I have even gone from falvor to flavor simply draining a tank and refilling with the next without tearing the tank down to soak the coils any and with five Nautilus 5ml tanks, a pair on Mini on the iSticks, and five more Alantis tanks I still haven't replaced any coil as of this time where I would have gone through a few of the others by now. That is due to not paying only $8 but multiply that a few times into the $25+ -$35 prices! Higher quality higher prices higher longevity is the formula.

I have never had one just die on me...but after a while I can tell a difference. I have recently learned how to rebuild them though with a micro coil and cotton. Much better. Just remember don't throw them away! You might want to learn how to rebuild down the road.

I have a whole ziplock bag full of old heads and that will last me years.
