i tested my resistance on my old itaste MVP2 which read pretty accurately. so if you eVic can read ohms, and you trust it then go for it. However in the future it is a good idea to get a decent ohm reader. (i have heard the digital multi-meters are way more accurate than the ones you buy at B&Ms)

I don't own one of the little black box ohm readers that you can get for $15 -$20 at your local B&M. I have a digital multimeter that I trust a whole lot more. You can get a decent DMM for $30+ and it'll do what you need it to reliably
I'm going to try single first because I assume it's easier. I was going to try using organic cotton ball for wicking. This okay you think?
That sounds perfect, Matt.
Do a single coil around a 2mm rod, with 8 wraps. That should put you around 1.8 ohms.
Also, the 2mm ID will be easier to wick than a smaller/tighter coil.
Make your wraps as close to each other as possible. Put it in your IGO and tighten it down. Be careful not to cut the wire legs when you tighten.
Check the resistance with your eVic. If the resistance is good, hit the fire button for a few quick pulses... the coil should begin to glow.
Hold the fire button a little longer until the whole coil glows, then let go of the fire button and squeeze the end of the coil so that it compresses it to where all of the wraps touch each other.
Hit the fire button again and see if it glows from the inside to the outside. Do NOT hit the fire button while touching the coil with tweezers or pliers. That will short your coil and cause it to burn through... then you'll have to make a new one and start over.
Does all of that make sense so far?
Yes! I read word for word and followed the instructions and it worked just as you say, now glows from the inside to the outside. The is exciting!

Unroll your cotton ball and pull about 1/3 of the strip off and twist the end so that you can feed it through the coil.
You should feel some resistance. It should be just slightly snug. If it is too tight, you will "choke" the wick and get dry hits even though you have juice on the tails.
If you don't have enough it's not going to be right either...
Just twist the end, not the whole strip... once you pull it through, clip the ends and wrap around and between the negative and positive posts.
You'll want to tuck one end kind of under the coil. Like a little cotton bed.
Put some juice on it and give it a try.
Now for the wick.

Thank all of you for the help. I really appreciate it. I may need it again, I kind of feel like I got lucky this time around haha. I am going to save the instructions and use them again for my next build and hopefully can replicate. Then maybe try dual coil and maybe eventually try a sub ohm at some point. But not going to get ahead of myself, really happy with this single coil right now. Thank you again for the help, this is so awesome!
Glad that everything worked out for you, Matt!! It'll get easier with practice. Honestly, building the coil is the easy part... getting the wick right was the trickiest part for me.
Just don't be afraid to play with it. As long as you make sure you have no shorts, you'll be okay as long as you're using the eVic or any other regulated device. You'll need a good ohm reader and should do some studying on battery safety and ohm's law before you get into mechanical mods though...

Can you test your ohms with something like an eVic? It has built in ohm tester. I want to get into building but don't know if I should buy an ohm meter or not when I already have eVic that can read ohms.

measuring resistance with an eVic is fine since it will cut out with any shorts in your rda/rta. but if your getting into mechs, a multimeter/ohm reader is essential as they give a more accurate reading which is important with finding your safe zone in terms of discharge current

I just got into mechs and rebuildables a few months ago. I was originally using pima cotton for wicking but I decided to order some japanese organic cotton pads and they were a game changer. Wicks far better than the pima sliver...which was really good too. Also its so much easier getting consistent wick sizes because you can just cut a strip.
And wait till you finally get a good mech...but like everyone has said baby steps. Definitely buy a box ohm meter though at some point, most certainly before mechs. Glad you're enjoying building man.

If you really want to up your wicking game... get some rayon. 100% rayon Cellucotton from Sally's Beauty Supply.... 100000000X better than cotton IMO. Wicks better, tastes better, easier to work with, stronger nic hit and a box of 500 feet is only about $12... that's at least 3 lifetime supplies!
Been using cotton but I Gots to get me some of that! Heard nothing but good stuff!
I have an authentic Hana v3 box mod, and it reads about .5 ohms above my ohm meter, so you can't fully trust your mod. Get a meter.
