I never dry burn, even when cleaning, to me there's no such thing, and whatever wick you dry burn gets scorched and the taste suffers. Others seem to do it successfully. I just tried Ekowool myself, and I could taste the silica pretty strongly as well, I just wound up tossing the ekowool and putting in some cotton.

i didnt boil it. i havent gotten this taste before with it. yes, i torched the kanthal on like 12 watts......what a wonderful glow. :)
do you just use cotton balls? i was thinking of that. i was going to try a really thin strand through the coil, and lightly pack the outside spaces in the drip well with this tank.

I just use plain old cotton balls, take a small amount and just roll it lightly in your fingers, insert through coil, soak with juice, reassemble tank, and you're good to go. Other people only use organic cotton, boil it, etc... I just made sure the balls I bought were 100% cotton, and it works for me. Some people do pack the "drip well," I don't. Is there a drip well on the Fogger? Kind of sounds like a vertical nano coil is what you're thinking of maybe...

I just use cotton balls. No trouble. I saw an interesting build recently that uses a vertical chimney style core with cotton stuffed around the perimeter, here's the link if you want to try it: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-micro-coil-build-aro-evod-protank-heads.html

3/4 wraps of #30 is pretty hot for when you are still learning how to wrap coils (and hotter than I would ever use).

I've used Ekowool, but I like using three strands of .8mm silica better. (and I don't like cotton) However I don't think your wick is the problem, your coil is. You need more wraps, and you need to squeeze them together.
I'll bet your coil looks like this

    instead of this

After I install the coil I will dry burn, but not for the sake of dry burning, but so that I can squeeze the coils together and they will stay that way. (micro coil). You don't need a torch to make a micro coil.

im not new to building coils, im new to using ekowool.

The main reason that I didn't care for the Ekowool is because it tends to fray & bunch up between the coils when you squeeze the coils together.

As for the coil, you will find that a 2 ohm micro works better than a 1 ohm normal coil.

    <~~ that's a 2.2 ohm micro coil

As a general rule I find that the "new wick taste" lasts for about an hour.
