I've been reading up on batteries but I'm a little dense on technical issues. My VP1 uses a 10440 3.7v 360mah protected battery, which are almost impossible to buy anywhere. My question is, if the size of the battery is the same and so is the voltage does it matter what mahs there are? Also, since I drip is it better to stay with a protected battery ? It's easy to buy some that aren't.

The short answer is the more mah you have the longer the battery will last. This explains why we have mods out using the 18650 batter in the 2-3000 mah rang that people vape on for 2 days or so using 1 battery.

The longer answer:

mAh

Milliamp Hours.

A unit for measuring electric power over time. mAh is commonly used to describe the total amount of energy a battery can store at one time.

A higher mAh rating means the (fully-charged) battery can power a device that consumes more power and/or for a longer amount of time before becoming depleted and needing to be re-charged. For example, a battery rated at 1500 mAh can power a device drawing 100 milliamps for 15 hours, or a device drawing 150 milliamps for 10 hours.

As far as dripping, the battery type would not effect it either way, the bigger concern for dripping would be manual battery verses UNSEALED auto battery where juice can get inside the auto switch and short it out etc. This is why manuals are suggested/prefered for dripping. Not to say you cant drip with an auto, more care and risk of short is the drawback however.

Hope this explains it :)

Well, yes that explains part of my question. So are all 10440s the same size or are there others that will work just as well with the VP? The atomizers are 801s.

Not that I can see where you asked that in your original post for it to only answer part of the question :))) but while I am not a 10440 battery expert, I do know that in general a protected battery is usualy a bit longer than an unprotected battery as most protected batteries achive the "protected" state via a small smart chip on the end.

In general all 10440 should be "about" the same size. As to finding a 10440 battery with a higher mah rating that will fit inside your vp1, while a quick google search netted me with many with higher than 360 mah, like 500 or so I could not guarantee they would fit in your vp1.

This would be a question best asked of the experts: either the vaprlife crew, or forum if there is a subforum for vaprlife or vp1, or reposted with a topic of something like "Looking for high mah 10440 batts that fit VP1" as I am sure there are other vp1 owners that have allready tested various batteries.

Watch out for these 10440 batteries especially on DealExtreme as they are not over 360mah even if they say they are!!

I was afraid that might be the case as well but wasn't sure enough to say so. Seems the OP may either simply need to carry more charged batteries, or look at mod that holds bigger batteries to begin with.

First option = deffinately cheaper.

2nd option, consider one that holds a 18650 for max battery life.

My VP1 uses a 10440 3.7v 360mah protected battery, .

The responses missed out on this important point PROTECTED BATTERY...

If it came with a protected batty you better replace it with one. An unprotected batt if shorted will not shut down. Lithium Ion batts will blow up like an a-bomb if allowed to short and melt down, hence the need for PROTECTED BATTIERS.

The case where you would order and unprotected batty is if there is external protection already there. For example inside a 901/801 batt case there is a battery wired to a curcut board (protection) then to the output contact. If you were to replace this bat and solder it to the circut board you would use an unprotected batt.
