Ohms matter because the lower the resistance (lower ohms) the warmer the vape will be. On a mechanical mod, you can vape a much broader spectrum of ohms.....you can go much lower, for instance, than you can on a VV or VW mod because there's nothing to cut it off. But ohms matter a lot in the quality of the vape. They will also affect the amount of power that is required of your battery. If you're using a 3.7 volt battery, then if you like a warm vape, you might shoot for a 1.5 ohm atomizer or cartomizer or rba coil (or even lower)...but if you like a cooler vape, you might like a 2.5 ohm atomizer or coil.

The voltage of your battery doubled, divided by the ohms of your atty or coil equals the wattage (output power) of your device, basically. So once you figure out what you like, you can sorta dial it in by changing the ohms of your atomizer/coil.

Trying to keep it very basic here.....but that's why ohms matter. Does that make sense?

Please read the info in the rebuilding subforum and watch a ton of videos on rebuilding before proceeding.

Ohms matter a great deal and not knowing what you're doing with respect to resistance and rebuildables can result in very, very bad things happening.

Just looking out for ya, buddy.

Ok. Looks like I'll be doing a lot more research before I do anything crazy. What I'm aiming for is sorta a cool vape. But most, I wanna produce a BIG cloud. I've been watchin rip trippers videos on YouTube but he makes it look so easy. I wanna put the duel micro coils in my trident, but then again I don't know what I'm doing. I just got my kathal wire 28 gauge and I got organic cotton for wick. I just orderd the vamo v3 for reading my ohms.. my set up that I wanna build the coils for is a private v2(clone)with 18650 battery and a trident rda(clone).. what JC Okie says makes sense .. but somehow I keep confusing my self. Haha.

My bad one more question.. so if I read my ohms, and say they are like at 2.5 ohms. And if I wantted to go lower.. or higher in ohms would I do more wraps or less wraps to get lower ohms?. Right now the coils I got in my igo-w have 3 wraps and it blows pretty nice clouds but I'm looking for more vape/Big. clouds..

i mean no disrespect, but your questions indicate that you really, really need to read up more about coils, ohm's law, and in, particular, battery safety.

you should start with battery safety. read the ones about battery safety here for a good start: E-Cigarette Forum - Baditude - Blogs

if you are now at only 3 wraps and you want to try for even bigger clouds, you are already in a danger zone unless you learn this stuff.

it really won't take long to read about batteries and coils and your face will thank you.

one last variable that hasn't been mentioned... what battery are you using and what's the maximum amp rating for that battery.. that's a safety issue there if you don't know. (by safety, I mean a battery exploding if it's a cheap one).

I reccommend watching tonnes of videos on how to do it and do your research.

Sure it matters, the lower the resistance(ohms) the quicker it will heat up and the warmer it will get as compared to a higher ohm coil.

If you're using the same wire.. more surface area=more heat distribution, slower it will heat up.

Wattage is a simple way to look at heat production with vaping.

I am using a pink Samsung 3.7 18650 battery the mah is 2600.. I got it from the local vape store for 20 bucks(yeah I know I got ripped off).. but I just orderd the efest 18650 2000mah.. they should be here tomarro. My pink Samsung dies like in half a day of vaping..

I hope you like math. Here's the vaping bible

Ohms-Law-Formula-Wheel.png

I recommend that you find out the Max discharge rating of the battery you're getting. For example, I have the Red Efest 18650 2000mah and that is rated at 10 amps. To give yourself a bit of a safety margin, it's recommended that you limit your coil build to 80% of your battery's max discharge rate which in the case of the Efest is 8 amps.

Knowing the maximum safe current or Intensity (I) = 8 amps
Your battery's voltage (V) at full charge = 4.2 v

Then we can find out the ohms or resistance (R) = V / I
4.2v / 8 amps = .5 ohms

With your efest batt, you'll know you're on the safer side as long as you keep it above .5 ohms.

not sure if either of those is "safe". you need to look up the C rating of the particular battery, then use ohm's law to see if it will be safe.

mah is a secondary rating for this application. it only tells you how long the battery may last. the C rating will tell you how much power it can deliver over a short period of time which is more important for safe vaping.
