Do they add sweeteners?

Hi all... I'm trying to quit smoking, so I recently got an e-cigarette. I've cut down to about a quarter of what I usually smoke, so I guess it's going pretty well.

I've tried a few different tobacco liquids from my local shop, FlavourArt seven leaves, RY4, etc., but the main thing I don't like is the sweetness. Do they actually add sweeteners to them? Or is it only from the PG or the VG itself? Just thought I'd ask here, before I spend more money mail-ordering some different brands...

Thanks!

Not really intererested in the whole blueberry banana mocha thing :) Never liked sweet things much. I'm just looking for a decent (sugarless) tobacco cigarette substitute. I'm just wondering if there are usually added sweeteners in the tobacco flavours, or maybe it's all like that, and the sweetness comes from the PG/VG itself? In which case, I can stop searching...

halo cigs has a strong tobacco flavor with very little sweetness that you might want to try. I think it has no sweetness and find my self wanting something else but think you might want to give it a shot.. i really like halo's juices..then again im a newbie to vaping. i ordered from over 4 places to test the waters and have found mixing flavors to be fun and away for me to smoke some flavors i other wise would not. so over all real happy from all places i ordered from. however halo does have flavor in spades and think you should try captain-jack juice they have for the lack of sweetness yet big on flavor..Captain Jack E-liquid | Halo E Liquid

Oops, Nada Nix!!!!! Don't ever throw away any juices! Your tastes will change after a while and it's good to go back and re-try them after weeks or months. (Or you may want to mix them with something else down the road) Trust me, after vaping for a bit, you will get your sense of smell back and your sense of taste will change as well.

Higher VG juices tend to be a little sweeter as the VG itself has an underlying sweetness to it. A lot of places do add either EM (Ethyl Maltol) or some sort of sucralose to their juices. You can usually find this information out from the vendor website on their FAQ pages.

You might want to have a look around the general liquid and liquid review sections of the forum for some good suggestions on non-sweet juices. There are probably thousands out there...

sorry to hear that u tossing them away. Do hold on to them though. they can taste better after a few weeks of sitting there. omyeyes is also right about your taste will change. or you can mix small amount of them into something u do like..i went into vaping expecting to get my craving for NIC and to have something keep my idle hands busy.as well as throat hit and smoke like vaper coming out of my mouth. after researching it i made up my mind. there is no way i will get the exact same taste as my favorite analog cig...so when i got flavors i picked things i personally liked ---spearmint, black coffee, butterscotch and so on.. right now im vaping on coffee and few drops of subzero (menthol) and i love it. i know it sounds nasty and my wife says it is nasty..the coffee one i got has nooo sweetness and is kinda harsh..the menthol makes it smooth..point being dont give up. there are juices with no/to little, sweetness and million flavors out there. You will find your all day vape flavor. keep trying. just dont try to replicate the exact taste of your analog cigs. instead find a better tasting vape..

I would second the vote for halo, although captain jack is more of a pipe type flavor. I went through the same thing you are and I found torque 56 from halo. Its not exactly like a cig but it is the best thing I have found that scratches that itch. Goes great with strong coffee. It has a slight maple tone to it but it actually makes the taste similar to the smell of a fresh pack of smokes. Hope this helps.

I've had to toss out some premixed juice because it was just to damned sweet, nothing I could do to it could make it vapeable and I was just wasting good juice trying to tweak it.

If you look at the description of the flavor, you can generally determine if the flavor is sweet or not. I don't add any sweetness to my mix, but do use some extracts that are naturally sweet.

Finding the flavor that one enjoys is one of the frustrating aspects of vape. One can tend to go through a lot of losers before finding the vape of their life. Also, once you stop smoking and have vaped for some time, then your sense of smell and taste slowly recovers, and one finds that what was enjoyable a month ago now tastes nasty and unvapable.

I have found that I enjoy cinnamon and a bit of apple, in a lot of my recipes. Love what cinnamon red hots can do to Virginia Fired tobacco juice. Put the Fire in Fired. Also like a smidgen of Cinnamon Danish in my Captain Black tobacco blend. Been experimenting with some Hypnotica extract, and really enjoying it's influence and the possible combinations for further recipes.

I would recommend first trying new juices out at a 50/50 vg/pg mix, until you find the flavors you like best from the vender of choice. Once you find vapable flavors then dial in your preferred vg/pg ratio.

Keep in mind that not all flavors from the same vendor are going to be great. I loved the prices ant Mt baker vapor, but loved flavor at Alien Vapor. I now DIY juice and buy most of my supplies from Wizards Labs. Got tired of the juice roulette game, so I cut out the middle man.

My main recommendation is to NOT give up, and keep trying until you find what works for you. One can find truly satisfying vape that no smoke, pipe, Cuban Cigar could ever compare to. There is just so many options and choices available that it becomes confusing. The main factor in vaping is ones skill set, capabilities, and what one is willing to do to get the vape they want.

When I started out 7 months ago, using a cig-a-like device, little did I realize that I would be wrapping my own coils, mixing up juice, and be willing to pay more for rba's then what was spent on my Provari. Or waiting for the flashi rba to arrive from your country. You have some great products over there and would recommend hooking up with the German region of the forum. Now that you have 5 posts, you can post there and get the best advice for your country for vendors and options.

Good luck, welcome to the forum, hope to hear more from you.

Vape long and Prosper.

If you don't want a sweet tobacco stay away from RY4's and try these below. I like 100% VG and I don't taste sweetness in 100% VG mixes. Some of these below are VG, some are PG.

Torque 56 from Halo - "unfiltered tobacco flavor and serious throat hit. Torque56 E-liquid is for those that want real tobacco flavor without a lot of complex nuances to cloud the taste. Knock your socks off with Torque56 E-liquid."

Dunhill from MyFreedomSmokes - supposed to taste like a Dunhill red pack

Hump Back from Quick Nic - "This is QNJ naturally extracted tobacco flavor, made from a Turkish Tobacco. "

Big Spirit from Naturally Extracted Tobacco.com - tastes like American spirit cig

Dark Horse from Heather's Heavenly Vapes

Legend or Serendipity from Heather's Heavenly Vapes

Virginia, Backo, or Adirondack from Backwoods Brew.

I like the dark horse.

Thanks for all the advice, lots of stuff to ponder...

Today I decided to do an experiment, went to the shop and bought a bottle of unflavoured 50pg/40vg 12mg base liquid. The results:
- I actually prefer the taste to all the other flavoured liquids I've bought, with the possible exception of Flavour Art 7 Leaves! It's not an "interesting" flavour, but sometimes "interesting" is not what you want... at least it doesn't have the kind of "medicine" taste that I'm getting from most of the others.
- The sweetness I'm getting is mainly from the pg/vg itself. A couple of the flavoured liquids I had were a bit sweeter, but not all that much so. Not really the news I was hoping for, but at least I know now what I can expect.
- It's also related to the stickiness. Sticky lips, after I take a puff... I think that adds to the feeling that it's something sweet, my brain interprets the stickiness as being sugary, even if it's not so sweet like sugar. I guess that's something I'll also have to get used to. Could it be that my equipment has something to do with it? I have a Joyetech 510-T, with automatic battery. Is it possible that it's not atomizing it well enough, that leaves a sticky residue (I don't think the liquid is actually leaking out the top)? Or is that just the nature of vaping? Does everyone notice the sticky lips thing?

I also decided to try to have an open mind, and get my first non-tobacco flavour. I got "green tea", figured it wouldn't be sweet or candy-like, and I do really like to drink green tea. I really tried to like it! But I don't see it happening, I just can't get over the artificial-flavour/medicine feeling. Then a friend of mine let me have some of his Pipe Sauce "Long Bottom Leaf" - wow, was that awful! I'm now running a few loads of the plain liquid through, just to try to wash the taste out of the atomizer...

Probably I sound a bit hard-to-please... actually I was pretty ok with the 7 Leaves for the last few weeks, until the shop ran out of stock, so I've been scrambling to find a replacement. I guess the unflavoured base will hold me for a while, until they get it back in stock again.

I found a mail-order place here in Germany that has Torque 56, so I'll give that a try. I thought about the Captain Jack, and the Johnson Creek Silverthorn or Domestic, but I got a bit scared of pipe-like flavours by the Long Bottom Leaf... maybe next time. So far I haven't found a good way to get the other brands (Dark Horse, etc.) here in Germany, but I'll keep looking.

Thanks again everyone!

Sticky lips ? im new to vaping like i said but have never had sticky lips from vaping. if u are getting that in mouth it would be sweet(and not in good way) and nasty....i see you posted you use a Joyetech 510-T and i have no experience in that set up. but i can tell you this. all that should go into your mouth is vaper. no juice. the mouth peace should not be sticky-- should be dry and clean around it. never have had juice make it up to my mouth .i have tanks get flooded and have to blow juice out of air intake before. but it never made it to my mouth. wish i could help you with your set up. but i use protank 3 and viva nova tanks we are talking apples and oranges. but i can tell you it should not be sticky...i do have a question do you use there weird punch a whole into bottom of tip tank system?.seen on youtube videos on fixing leaking that this set up is prone to having. buying extra ends that have not been punched can fix it. have you tried a pre filled cardomizer with it?. or a cardo you fill up..point being you should not be getting sticky lips.

Happened to me. Got some Cherry Limeade. Liked it for a day and then tossed it in my stash box a couple of weeks ago. Just tried again tonight and I have been chain vaping it.:vapor:

People like to say that VG is naturally sweet, but I vape 100% VG unflavored these days, and it is definitely nowhere NEAR as sweet as any of the flavored juices I've tried. I barely notice any sweetness from the VG.

As for stickiness, that's not something I've ever experienced. I would guess that it's something in your juice or just a poor quality device.

Yes, that's the setup I have, you punch a hole in the plastic tank when you insert it the first time.

I don't think there's anything actually leaking though. The tip is clean. It seems to be the vapour itself. After I exhale, I get a definite sticky feeling on my lips.

I kind of like the 510T, because it's compact and I like not having to press a button. But I'll do some more research - maybe I'd be better off with something else. I still haven't quite got a grip on all the tech, cartos, clearos, coils, etc...
