do you need a mod to use a RBA/RTA?

So I'm not new to vaping but new to the whole mod/coil building thing. Now i've tried searching for this question here and elsewhere but haven't been able to get a straight answer so i figured i'd ask myself. I'm still a little unsure what classifies as a "mod". I know there's mechanical ones and VV and VW ones. So my question is can you use something like the kanger subtank nano on a non mod rechargeable battery. For example, right now i have the vaporfi rocket battery with the rocket tank. I'm pretty sure it isn't considered a mod but it does have variable voltage, so I really don't get what the main difference is. I know people will probably say get a better/less expensive mod to replace it (which i probably will eventually anyway) but could i use an rba such as the the subtank with this vaporfi rocket?

The heads for your tank are currently 1.8 ohm. If you build around that you could run it just fine. Although I would say you probably wont get the results you are looking for.
Take a look at an Istick 30 watt or even a segelei mini 30 watt for a great regulated first mod. :)
make sure you read up on ohms law and battery safety before building anything.. Happy vaping

So my question is can you use something like the kanger subtank nano on a non mod rechargeable batteryIm assuming you mean a mod with a built in battery as opposed to one where the batteries are rechargeable, if so, then yes. You just need to check the specs on the mod your looking at to see if it can fire at that low of a resistance. With the kanger you can use .5 ohm coils or 1.2 ohm coils if you are using the prebuilt ones. For example, right now i have the vaporfi rocket battery with the rocket tankIm not really familiar with this mod, I just looked it up and I don't see the specs and it looks like your atomizer is a 1.8 ohm coil. I'm pretty sure it isn't considered a mod but it does have variable voltage, so I really don't get what the main difference is. My responses are in red. In short, I doubt your mod whould handle the .5 coil, and without the specs I cant say for sure if it would work with the 1.2 coil.

thanks for the quick replies everyone. Ok so i have a better idea now of why it may or may not work with it. I emailed their customer support earlier asking the same question so hopefully i'll get an answer from them about that.

The battery you are talking about won't run anything that has a low resistance coil. Potentially, you CAN run a rebuildable on simple VV batteries.

I'm interested to hear what their customer support says, as their prices are CRAZY. They charge two to three times as much as other Vendors. They claim it is worth people paying $119.99 for a $49.99 e-cig because they have superior customer service and industry-leading warranties.

Please, if you want to upgrade to a "mod" that will run RBA/RDA stuff beautifully, make sure you check the prices.

You can guess what I think of them.

Can you put a rebuildable on an ego-type or vv/vw "stick" type mod... Yes you can, but only if you make a coil with a high enough resistance. I use a Kayfun on an iTaste vv3 -- yes it looks like a scepter and I like that, but more importantly, because I build my kayfun coils at 1.8-2 ohms, that small battery has no problem with it, and even gets reasonable runtime, given that it's only 800mAh.

But just about ANY mod that goes to 15w or less, will not fire anything below 1.3 ohms.

so i ended up getting the eleaf istick 30W along with the subtank mini and its pretty sweet, definitely worth it. yeah the way i see it is vaporfi is like the apple of e cigs (mac vs pc), they are overpriced but they put out quality products and they have good customer service and warranties. I also love how they have a kiosk with a tasting bar in the mall thats five minutes from where i live. Their juices are fantastic too.

also, holy ...., this is my first time using an rba and the flavor difference is unbelievable. I was using the prebuilt occ heads it came with for the past 2 days but just tried using the rba and damn. at first i though juice was going into my mouth because i felt the taste so strongly on my tongue (in a good way). one thing is weird though. At first it was reading 0.6 ohms but then starting climbing without me even firing the thing, like up to 1.4. now its back down to 0.7 after taking a few hits, and sometimes i look and it says 0.9. Whats up with that?

Sounds like one of the ends of the wire is loose, or the head that the coil is mounted to, may be wiggling around.

The bottom of the RBA section is loose, if you unscrew the rba deck from the bottom plate, you can tighten by hand the bottom of the rba coil. Turn to the right to tighten. also make sure the screws holding the coils in are not loose but most likely the bottom is the culprit.

yeah, idk about the bottom section, but i did tighten the screws and its fine now
