does a higer nicotine level lessen the flavor?

I am new to vaping only 4 days and have many questions. Someone told me that the higher the nicotine level u get in the juice that it will lessen the flavor. Does anyone know if this is true? The juice I got to start was caramel 12 mg. Im still smoking ciggs (less than I was before vaping) but I am thinking I need a higher nicotine level (1 1/2- 2 packs a day smoker) but I like the stronger taste. I like the caramel because it kinda has a litte harsh in your throat feel but want a variety. I tried a fruitier flavor (roc sauce and mt. Dew) same nicotine 12mg and v/p levels 80/20 as the caramel but they dont have that strong flavor to them like the caramel. Id like to have a few different flavors to vape throughout the day but if the higher nicotine level lessens the flavor I dont want to buy them and not get that strong flavor. But really want a higher nicotine level also. Are certain types of flavors just generally stronger than other types? Will I lose some of the flavor by increasing nicotine levels. I was thinking of buying the 24mg. If anyone has any thoughts on this it would b greatly appreciated. Thanks

36-38mg of nicotine. Wow. I didnt even know it went up that high. I have only seen 24mg here and the vape bar down the street from me only goes up to 18mg. Not sure how high the gas station bottles go up to but I have heard to stay away from those. I dont know this firsthand only what people have told me. If the level of nicotine dosent effect flavor than I think I will go as high as I can find which so far is 24mg. Is this amount a good start for someone who smoked 1 1/2 - 2 packs a day?

while I'd not say "lessens the flavor" I would say changes it.

I'm down to a 6mg and 12mg ones, and Ed has some of those same flavors in an 18 and one that's 24mg (denoted with a RED tip and a red battery, meaning warning Ginny this is the REAL DEAL *lol*) but that peppery throat hitty kind of taste. It's still say Gambit's one we've both got in different mg, but I like mine more than his' taste.

but it's still Gambit, I'll suck it dry if I didnt have my 12mg one *lol* just slower.

I guess it depends on what "flavor" you are looking for. I usually vape unflavored liquid. The "taste" for me is the taste of the nicotine. Nicotine does have a flavor that can change, enhance, mute, or overpower other flavors that are mixed with it. Some stronger flavors can mute or overpower the nicotine flavor.

If you're brand new to vaping, I would recommend strong flavors, at least until your taste buds recover from smoking. The nicotine can effect flavors and change them with higher concentrations. I started with 30-36mg levels of nicotine to kill the cravings, and opted for strong peppermint, licorice, menthol and such to be able to taste anything.

As my taste buds healed and recovered, my sense of smell returned, much, much lighter flavors and nicotine levels were more pleasurable. I cut the nicotine very slowly as not to relapse to smoking as I had with gum and patches.

I vape 24mg juice. I have vaped 18mg and 12mg when nothing else was available. I have never noticed a difference in taste unless 1. The pg/vg was drastically different than I was used to. 2. The flavoring used during mixing was of poor quality such as in gas station juices. 3. A juice needed steeping.

Nic levels never factored in to equation when I've had a juice that was bad tasting, weak or overwhelming.

Simplest answer is another question.

How much pepper on your food before all you taste is pepper?

Nic does not degrade flavor, but it can overwhelm your taste buds and effect your perception of the flavor.

This ; yes.

The higher the nic, the.. well, the more overwhelming it is to the taste.

You might find for example you like a certain flavor at 24mg, but if you get 0mg of the same flavor, you don't like the taste at all!

That's because 36mg/mL of nicotine is incredibly concentrated. Very few companies will sell that high, but I guess more and more are starting to carry that level. I would not start there from 12mg/mL. Try 18mg/mL and if that doesn't work then 24mg/mL.

Before I made the switch I could smoke 1 pack a day easy (thank God for my boyfriend who helped me by only letting me have so many a day and kept me from doing that :) ). I quit smoking cigarettes using 6mg nicotine. Being able to vape more is what made me quit smoking! If the nicotine mg is too high for you then it makes you have to vape less. I really liked being able to vape as much as i wanted to :) without getting a headache or nauseous. My first online vendor I purchased from, the first time i purchased eliquid from them I got 18mg nicotine and it was way too strong for me. I would take 2 puffs in a row and get a headache, because it was just too strong for me. You should try the 18mg first before trying the 24mg :) The good thing is if you get an eliquid thats nicotine is too high then you can save it if you ever get any strong cravings.
Nicotine does have a peppery taste to it, which when mixing with it it can make a flavor better, in my opinion. When i first started to diy i decided to mix without any nicotine, but without the nicotine my flavors were too sweet. For me the nicotine covers the sweetness of the VG and PG. Everyone is differrent though....someone reading this may be thinking "what is she talking about" :) lol
I wish you good luck, and I hope you find the mg that works for you.....because when it comes to vaping you yourself and what you like is the most important factor!

To the OP, at this stage of the game I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you. Just get off those cigarettes.

The longer you vape and the more your taste buds heal, and if you start mixing the juices up yourself, you will find that nicotine makes a huge difference in the taste of your juices. Even different brands of nicotine will change the taste of your juice.

For now, I wouldn't worry about it, not one bit.
