I found that 12 mg was to weak to start with. I went to 18 mg and have had much more success.
I didn't notice a change in the flavor of the liquid, but I did notice that the higher dose gave me a slightly higher throat hit, which I liked.
I have been smoking a pack or more a day of Marlboro red 100s for over 20 years.

I started with 18mg but that was too much because it's too easy (and fun) to chainvape. Currently I'm on 12mg, planning to do to 6mg at some point.
I prefer fruitier flavors but YMMV.
The nic level is subjective to your tastes and vaping habits. If you puff every now and again, the 24mg+ may be perfect for you. If you chainvape, I would recommend trying a lower mg, it's too easy to take in too much that way. I get jittery and a stomachache if I do.

I found I started at 24MG, then it started being too much throat hit, and went down to 18MG. Recently I switched to using RDA's and had to drop down to 6MG as I was getting way too much nicotine. Now I find 6MG with my Magma I get great throat hit, awesome flavour, and I'm a chuckin' the vapor. I rarely feel like I'm getting too much nicotine anymore as well.
