My 2 cents on this, having ordered via alibaba...
Yes, most of our vaping gear is made in China.
I dont care where it was invented!!! They invent many things, but I prefer to support American vendors who have quality control standards and parts designed to be functional. Its cheapskate vapors who buy from China and then their battery blows up on the charger who then post online about it, making people wary of vaping or buying from the REAL ego company. It really bothers me, so I am sorry if I offended you, but you know what, Its my opinion and its not changing.
I think a better way to state his concern is "buy from a COMPANY that will stand behind their product."
Quite a few (most?) of the 'vendors' on alibaba are based in Hong Kong and are trading companies. They manufacture nothing. They buy from the China factories and resell. The problem is that those companies sell off their
defects to these trading companies. Then they turn around and sell them on alibaba. This is a major component of what is commonly known as 'grey market' merchandise. There are also the knock-off manufacturers who are not as concerned about quality or accountability for their products: they just want to make some fast easy money. This is the same process that results in 'fake' medicines, unsafe batteries, etc. I've even seen horrible fake smart phones that were only fancy PDAs from 15 years ago with some window-dressing to make them look like smart phones.
So... Be careful.
Caveat Emptor
Ordering a product from someone who you do not share a fluent language with is a nightmare. ( Broken engrish? *facepalm* )
Ordering from someone who cannot or will not stand behind what they sold you is very risky. You might not get what you ordered or it might only barely qualify as what you ordered by the letter of the description.
My personal experience went like this: Via alibaba, I ordered some vivi nova tanks and and an quantity of replacement heads as part of the same order. The tanks were one variety of cheap knockoff. The replacement heads were from yet another knockoff design and were NOT actually compatible with the tanks in the same order. (!) Yeah. Fail. Oh and the ohms ratings of the replacement heads were well outside of any reasonable tolerance. a 2.0 ohm head was a 'good' one if it tested at 1.6 ohms. Most were worse. The seller's alibaba account said they were a manufacturer. In reality, upon some investigation, I found it was a Hong Kong trading company: one of several hundred thousand posting stuff to alibaba. My interactions with several and the one I ordered from make me suspect that they are the online equivalent of the guy selling 'genu-wine rolex watches' hanging in the liner of his overcoat in Times Square.
Ya spin the wheel and ya takes your chances. But if you see the wheel is rigged, play elsewhere.
