No soaking or other preparatory measures. If I find a atty becoming a little sluggish when I'm out fishing or away from the house, I'll pull the cart off and dry-burn for 3-4 seconds, blow on the bridge, dry-burn for 3-4 seconds, etc, until I find the smoke coming off the atty quicker and the red glow coming quicker. Makes a big difference in the vape afterwards and hasn't done any harm that I've seen.

yea this works great, i still do it, but like people have said, you're going to go through a lot more attys. I went through 3 in a month because I "popped" them by going just a bit too long on a dry burn, or doing it too frequently. I was careful to stop as soon as I saw the glow appearing, or if it felt hot, but they all "popped" out suddenly at one point or another because it's not always easy to distinguish. I can't really think of an alternative though to get the same result as efficiently, so i'm still on board with the dry burning.

Been following Ourei's advice from this thread and it's been working great for me.

Just keep blowing on the coil as I burn, continue blowing for cool down after releasing the batt's manual button.
If I need to take a breath I let go the button, take a quick breath and blow a second or two to aid in cool down, then crank it up again.

I use my pt to burn as it will run 8-9 seconds before auto shut off so I can get good long burns, I count to 5-6 for each burn. Then count to 3 on cool down.

The other weird thing I do (and we all have some weird .... thing we doing in our pv maintennace), I use a drinking straw to blow through. Use it to aim the air right into the atty.
I keep burning until there is no smoke. Sometimes I have to dry burn a little while until it will start smoking. Then I keep going until it won't anymore. I might do it every 3rd day, I might do it twice a day, been working ok for me and my 510 attys so far.

ymmv....
