I don't know if this was ever discussed here before but here it goes.

So being the Noob that I am, I stuck a few bottles of e-liq in the fridge thinking that it will retain it's freshness and make it last longer... :?: Yyyyeaah... No:closedeyes:
After a week or to my vaping experience got pretty crappy. It was the most disgusting thing ever. I didnt know what it was, cleaned atty, different batt..etc. Finally realized that was being done out of the norm was the e-liq in the fridge, and it was. ended up throwing them out and cleaning everything and getting new juice.

So if anyone else get the genius idea  of doing so... Don't!

It's quite interesting tho, anyone have an idea why that would happen?
note: some were pg and some were vg and same result.

The one and only way I store liquid is by putting it in a box (I have a wooden box) and keeping it away from heat and direct light.
:) Not only do some of the flavors steep and strengthen and change in flavor, but they stay fresh.

Long-term storage, on the other hand, is something I'm curious about. I know that there's a thread on here about it. :)

Edit: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/134842-long-term-storage-e-liquid.html#post2126737 This will tell you what you may need, in the long run, but it says that the freezer is better than the fridge.

I'm sure different flavors will have a different effect in the cold and heat. A friend of mine lost a bottle in his truck last week and found it last night. We're in the 20 degree and buried in snow weather right now but his juice was fine. It was a bottle of menthol/mint blend. I DIY everything and do nothing more than room temp/dark/dry. Some of my bottles are well over 3 months old and are still ok. Some got a bit potent but easily fixed by adding some PG/VG.

Wonder what sitting in a mailbox buried in snow for the day would do to some flavors.

I've read here on ECF that some people store their large purchases of juice in the freezer. I haven't bothered trying it though since it supposedly has a 2 year shelf life.

I think that you will find that they were discussing unflavored nic juice, not pre-mixed flavored juice, which most us us store in cool, dark places - I use a large tackle box for storage. I don't put my nic juice in the freezer, but I do keep in in the fridge.

From the way I understand it;

Flavored juice kept in the fridge can turn rancid. It's better to keep it in a cool, dark place.
Unflavored juice can be kept in the fridge without problems. I have a bottle I've been working with for 4 months now stored in mine and the flavor and color are just the same as the day I got it. It can also be stored in a cool dry place and will be fine.
Unflavored juice in glass bottles with very little head room can be stored in the freezer for long periods. According to at least one of our chemist vapers, it will probably last over the 2 year expiration.

I have to keep everything locked up. If I didn't have a 3 year old who's obsessed with the new fridge runnin around I'd probably keep more supplies in there....LOL

Lol luckily mine are teens now. I do have a lock box for my in use supply though because we have one particular friend with small children.

I just noticed that you were wondering about juice that sat in the mailbox during freezing temperatures. From what I can tell, juice that is cold temporarily isn't a big deal. It's flavored juice that's been transferred out of the fridge and then and opened repeatedly, or those stored in the fridge for long periods. I don't know if it's the flavors or something to do with humidity/water condensation, whatever, but just to be on the safe side I even let my unflavored bases return to room temperature before I open it.

LOL....problem is my son *thinks* he's 17 like his sister. Ya...the day he decided to make his own sandwich....good times.

At any rate, I pretty much strictly DIY but do occasionally get the free sample here and there with other orders. I had gotten one in particular, "Pineapple Upside Down Cake", which others here on the forum raved about but mine was horrible. I figured it was just the summer heat or something. Or the mailbox vaped my goodies and watered my juice. Stupid mailbox...

Sounds like we pretty much have the same habits. I DIY everything except a couple of sample bottles a month I treat myself to. Then try to figure out the recipe for those I really like.

It could have been the heat that got to your juice, or then again, I've tried juices that everyone adored and I thought it tasted like dishwashing liquid. I sometimes wonder if my taste buds have ever recovered correctly from all the abuse I put them through. I think heat is a lost worse on premixed juices than cold though, at least in the short term.

Not sure why people try to freeze unflavored nic juice. PG freezes at around -60F and VG around -35F if I remember my chemistry correctly. The nic breaks down from oxidation and UV light. So I do not open and close bottles (only the one I am feeding off of) and I keep them in a cool dark cabinet. I really do not want 100mg/ml nic anywhere in the fridge where it could possibly fall and break. Remember this stuff is really nasty at those levels and can enter the blodstream through the skin. Enjoy the DIY, happy vaping and be safe.
