Here's how you start to save money, buy 2 LP Reo Grands and a couple of bottom fed rebuildable atomizers and you won't want to buy other devices. Then you're just spending money on juice, kanthal, and batteries.

Until they start putting DNA30 chips or something in them :p Then you need a whole new mod xD

I've Saved about 100 dollars, and spent about 700 on stuff. But I'm still looking for the juices that work for me. Right now, I'm spending about the same on juice as I am on or sorry, was on cigarettes . But waiting till I find my good ones that I can smoke daily . I got a couple goods But certain vendors keep doing 99 cent sales

I'm not a hobbyist. I started with a Walgreen e-cig and it bit the dust a week later, got the Blu kit and that lasted 1 month, so that adds up to about 80.00 then order a V2 kit that lasted until I just wasn't getting what I wanted out of it( that kit was $170.00) then got a Zeus and a Titan battery that was another $110.00 then finally broke down and got a Provari and love it, That was almost $200.00 to get everything. The just got 2 Nzonics on here and love them. 1 aero tank 1 protank 2 so that was another 25.00 1 Russian 91 at $100.00 so that is about so that is a bit over 800.00 in about 18 months not including juice but I have saved so much money not smoking. I have saved 4000 plus dollars since quitting smoking. I now have the right set ups and I'm now content. I just buy a few bottles of juice every few months unless they are having a really good sale. I make my own coils for the Russian and protanks and that isn't very expensive at all. I just want to stay off cigs and this has helped me. If I had a spending problem my husband would shoot me. But then again he still smokes but is starting to vape with his evod and doesn't want a provari. I purchased him one and he wouldn't use it so I just sold it. So I'm saving from spending 8.50 a day so that is a lot in a months time. Everyone goes in a learning curve I did. But now I'm a happy camper and all's I have to buy is wire and juice when needed. So if you are happy with what you have and are saving your life without smoking and want to treat yourself to a bling once in awhile go for it. Just think about how much you are saving by not smoking also:laugh:

I've been at this for just under a year. I haven't kept track of spending at all, and i probably should have! I won't run you through the whole progression, but i've gone from vivi nova tanks, through glass tanks, carto tanks, rebuildable tanks, and drippers. ego, small regulated, large regulated, mechs, 26650 mechs, and Dna regulated. Every time I have ventured into new territory, I've gotten happier with the results! Sometimes a little happier, sometimes knock my socks off happier. (I'm looking at you Kayfun.)

Things seem to be changing so fast! Look how much drippers have changed over the last year! I had some Igo l's and w's and didn't really get the hype. Tried the tugboat and was blown away. Now I have 2 tugboats, a Magma, a 454, and a Stillare. sigh

If the tech and innovation slow down, I probably will too. If the Changes that come out don't really improve anything, I'll probably stop buying. Until then... well, we shall see lol.

My one piece of advice, taking all of this into consideration, would be this. If you find something you like, buy one or two of them, not five or ten. If after a couple of months you still love it and have not moved on, get some more if you want to. I remember very clearly ordering 5 more protanks (2's) and 10 boxes of heads and thinking I was done for a long, long, time. All of those are in the donate box.

Thanks for the input, everyone!!

I’m definitely willing to spend on vaping, and if I’m going to end up spending the same amount as I did on cigs, it’s definitely money better spent, that’s for sure!

However, I don’t see myself becoming a hobbyist with vaping. As much as I like the experience of vaping, I don’t really have much of an interest in DIY’ing liquid, mech mods, coil building in an RBA, or even recoiling. Of course I’ve committed to learning to build coils for the KFL+ I’m planning to purchase, but I suspect that’s as far as I’ll go. I have a few other longstanding hobbies that take up my time—and honestly, I’d love to be able to put some of the money I might save by not smoking toward those!

I think TheJakeBailey kind of also nailed a piece of what I was getting at, but didn’t really say. I had a brief foray with a cigalike in 2011, and browsed this forum a little back then to get the state of the state. When I came back here recently (only 3 years later), it was like the entire landscape of vaping had changed. And honestly, it seems like every day there’s something new coming out…whether all that new product translates into actual new innovation is another thing—but I could see ongoing expenses just to keep up with the technology if this pace keeps up.

Also, someone asked about the app…it’s just called “Vape” by Andy’s Apps. My only real complaint is that for some reason when you put in the date of a purchase, it changes by a day when you actually save it to the purchase log. Knowing the actual purchase dates isn’t that important to me though—I just like to keep track of expenditures, cigarettes not smoked, money “saved”, and the break even date…and for those things, it’s fabulous!

Thats up to you , i don't have money to chase all the stuff constantly hitting the market , if you allow yourself to get caught up in it and lose sight of why your doing this then yeah, the $$ goes out and never seems to end .

Depends on what your goals are and if you even made any , i feel the more vaping gear you acquire the more you are unlikely to stop if that is in fact your goal.

Yeah, it has essentially ended for me. Started with an ego and t3s. Then got stupid for a couple months with mechs and rdas. Then I got a VTR and now I'm using a Provari and a Kanger Mega. I don't drip at all anymore, and I'm looking to unload all my mechs and RDAs. I simply don't use them. Like, at all. I'm happy with clearos and a variable control device. Loving the Provari, and still have love for the VTR. I also still use my original ego with a mini protank for when I go in to see customers and whatnot. I use it to stealth vape at movies, and other places vaping isn't quite welcome. I even stealth vape on planes.

IMO, there are only two things you *have* to do before you (realistically) can start saving money -

1) Find equipment that works for you, whatever that may be.
2) Find juice that works for you, whatever that may be.

There's one more thing that a lot of people are reticent about (myself included) that can be a huge money sink if you choose not to do it -

3) Learn to build a coil.

I wasn't sure I *could* do 3 because my fine motor coordination is terrible - but it's easy, and once you're building your own coils, you not only save money on coil heads, you also save a ton of *time*. A well built coil can last weeks to months, which is rarely possible with a factory coil. I didn't want to get into anything too fiddly, but the truth is building your own coils actually makes things far *less* fiddly, even if you're using tanks. I don't subohm or build anything complicated... I keep everything over 1 ohm, be it a rebuildable or a standard tank (which I usually build closer to 3 ohms). But my tanks don't leak and gurgle and dry hit all the time anymore, because I've got good coils in them now, so they're now *truly* fill and go. The convenience of that, plus the fact that I don't have to spend $1.50 a coil anymore for something I can make for a fraction of a penny, is worth 30 seconds of my time per coil once a month (or two months, or three).

That's not to say there's anything wrong with choosing not to rebuild, but I wanted to mention that in the long run, I actually find rebuilding a time saver as well as a money saver.... not to mention a *stress* saver, because all of my gear works, every time I pick it up.

Oh dear God an app to keep track of everything I have spent . No, I don't think so, the app would blow up with such high figures. Ignorance is bliss when it comes to what I have spent.

Haha, this, 100%. I've been vaping since 2010, I'm not a "collector" at all, and I STILL find myself thinking every few weeks, "Hmm, I think I'll buy this random starter kit, a couple backups, and 20 coil heads I've never used before." So off into the ether goes yet another $100 order. And don't get me started on juice. I tried so hard to just stick to 1 kind of juice, but I couldn't do it. There's so much out there.

Joanne75 - one suggestion, if you haven't considered it yet, is to look into becoming a "Verified" ECF member ASAP. That will allow you to use the For Sale/classifieds section on this forum and either sell or trade any gear or juice you decide you don't want, throughout your vaping journey (AKA shopping spree).
