Does longer steep = less flavouring ?

One of my recipies I noticed it was getting too strong after 3 weeks steeping. I'm mixing larger batch's of the recipies I enjoy so its on hand and frees up time for playing with new recipies. I remixed at 75% of total flavouring and so far so good. Just did 10 mls to check it out and its not as "in your face" after 7 days steep. Next I'll mix 30 mls to try. Until my supply order comes in I can't mix larger batch again as I'm down to just 40 mls of vg.

Have others noticed that with mixing amounts of 100mls+ vs 30mls that a reduction of total flavouring was helpfull due to the longer steep ?

I've found larger mixes are harder (take longer) to completely mix well. Operative word is 'well'. I spin mine on a magmixer and the taste is very consistent between large and small, and you can visually see the larger amounts not mix as fast as smaller amounts. I overkill my spinning and spin overnight for 8 or more hours. Mixed. I leave spin bars in the bottoms of my 60 and 120 ml bottles so I can always spin it up for a few minutes whenever I want. Flavors whose profile changes drastically over a period of time are fighting each other and a bit of tweaking is needed, imo. Sounds like you're getting closer to what you want.

I gather that when you say "75% of total flavor" you mean 25% less flavor then you used last time. If your making large batches of 200mls or more give it an extra week steep then you would normally do for smaller mixes. I usually don't make more then 120mls at a time and find no difference in flavor then with smaller batches. And I don't find I need to steep any longer then usual.

I had the recipe at 24% total flavouring and reduced it to 18% total flavouring. Useing all tfa flavouring and changed my steep method. I was noticeing a flavour drop off after 2 weeks so stopped the warm water bath and just shake daily and leave the cap off about 20 minutes every 3 days to get rid of alcohol in flavourings.

No flavour drop, I found the background flavours were overwhelming the main flavour, blueberry wild, the new mix seems better but will have to wait until later in the week to try a 100 ml mix when order gets in.

I don't leave the whole 100 ml for 3 weeks I start vaping this mix after 7 days but 100 mls lasts about 3 weeks, so by the end its steeped 3 weeks. Now that I have a half dozen decent recipes the juice is around longer and my taste buds after a year are probably more sensitive now also.

TFA flavors are funny that way. To much flavor can result in no flavor or a reduction in flavor. Try reducing percentage even more. Most TFA flavorings have no alcohol so there should be no need for airing.

Have a great holiday too...

According to tfa website blueberry wild has alcohol in it and I can taste it until it evaporates since I don't drink I'm quite sensitive to the taste of any alcohol in flavorings. So do a few others from them that I use though you are right that most don't.

Danny, since I'm out of vg until order arrives decided to do an experiment. Mixed up 2 recipes, 10 mls, 100% pg and will add vg. equal amount so will give me a 50/50 pg/vg ratio with a 50% reduction of total flavouring, of course the pg/vg ratio will not be what I usually mix at but will give me an idea of the taste at lower %'s of total flavouring. It's been steeping since Sunday so thinking after adding vg will give it a short 20 minute warm water bath, shake the heck out of it and after a couple days additional steeping at least it'll give me additional 40 mls to vape while my new mix's steep.

Also ordered some 10 ml bottles so can do my recipes at %'s I've been doing then remix smaller amounts, add 30/70 pg/vg to exsisting recipes and try various reduction %'s to see how it goes. I've been meaning to do this but with getting low on vg it had to wait.

Mixing is fun, it's like an ongoing science experiment with benefits. :vapor:
