Hi all good to be here...
I started making my own ejuice and friends that buy from me request certain levels of nicotine... i base my scale of nicotine on the one from the steam engine online calculater... however ive seen that the strength of nicotine of when i prepare it say on the level of 6 is stronger than the strength of a 6 level nicotine of ejuice made by joytech... and im not sure regarding drop smoke... in other words there a differences... does anyone know what the comparison is between steam engine, joytech, or drop smoke... nicotine levels?
I would sincerely appreciate some help on this subject if anyone has anything to share.
Thx

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you are talking about. What do you mean with "level"?
Usually we measure nicotine in mg/ml. Xmg/ml is Xmg/ml no matter how you calculate.
So I guess with "level" you mean mg/ml of nicotine.

Now how do you know that 6mg/ml of one liquid is "stronger" than 6mg/ml of another liquid?

I think they mean one of two things.

Concentration, which like you said is a measurement of nicotine content,

or they mean the 'strength', i.e throatiness of the nicotine. To cover both bases, it depends on the flavor and the kind of nic the company uses. Some nicotine's taste like pepper in the back of your throat, and some have a smighs sweetness. The flavor also makes a big difference.

I vape a 6mg/ml, and some flavors (like rainbow sherbet, citrus flavors specifically) are much ''stronger" than others. They have a much more pronounced throat hit.

But from what I am reading they mean concentration. In which case, a 6 is a 6, unless they mislabeled it which is now a no-no.

So I had to look up that nic calculator on steam engine, normally I do my calculations in a terminal...

The calculator has the option to either show % or mg/ml (on the left side), select mg/ml there because that's what everybody uses.

Then there's 2 sides, the input side (left) and the output side (right). If you want a 6mg/ml liquid then put in 6 on the right side and the strength of your base on the left side, this will calculate so you have a 6mg/ml strength base liquid.

I don't say that because I think you don't know, you probably do, just to make sure we're talking about the same thing.

Hey @Ethan diy,
Just a caution: If you have been mixing recipes as "level 6", when in fact it was 6%; be aware you are handing out 60mg/mL e-liquid. That is some STRONG stuff! You might want to give them a heads-up... just sayin'.

I am not aware of any vendor, or manufacturer, who does does not use a standard unit of measure. "Milligrams per milliliter" (mg/mL) is the most common; though a handful of UK vendors express it as "percentage to volume" (%).

Just a friendly reminder, that nicotine is the one ingredient that we use in DIY, that has a true immediate safety risk when mishandled. If you are not sure about how much you are adding; please ask before you mix... especially for others.

does anyone know what the comparison is between steam engine, joytech, or drop smoke... nicotine levels?
I just checked both Joyetech, and DropSmoke, and both sell their liquids as mg/mL. Joyetech is lazy; and drops the "/mL" part. DropBox appears to me to be outright unhelpful (deceptive?) and gives no unit of measure at all (maybe they don't want their customers finding out they can buy their juice elsewhere?). But, by the increments offered, I feel reasonably confident that they are using mg/mL.

As @untar already explained:
If you are using Steam Engine to mix; PLEASE... please select "Nicotine strength in weight" in the lefthand box like so:

This will change the "Target Box" from this:

To this:

This will avoid any confusion, as well as potentially harmful situations in the future.
