I'm fairly new to the PV game ,and so far have only used VG juice. I recently got a good friend and his fiance' into vaping. They purchased a few juices from Madvapes, two of which I tried: Banana and Carrot Cake.

They were both mostly PG, and both had an odd taste to them. This is my first time tasting any PG juice, so my immediate thought is that the PG is the culprit, is this possible?

They had a taste that is similar to the smell of cheap cologne. It's not very strong, and the juice is still delicious, but I just can't seem to figure out the odd flavor.

I figured it wasn't any extract or anything that is causing it, as I don't see why Banana and Carrot Cake would have any similar flavorings added.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Did the liquid have nicotine? All flavors including the taste of nicotine are less dulled by PG.

Cologne smell though is usually the flavorings. Has nothing to do with PG. Often caused by overflavoring or mixing flavors. Some juices need steeping. Juices made with a single flavoring in a reasonable amount are less likely to need steeping.

actually from what I have read most of Hoogs recipes are mostly VG to make up for the fact that he uses Alcohol based flavorings...only VG based E-liquids I have been able to vape w/o an allergic reaction...I am still trying to figure out the culprit...but no PG does not really have a flavor per se more sweet than anything else...the rest of the flavor of it I cannot accurately describe w words...

In my experience PG has very little taste on it own, VG has a stronger taste alone in my opinion. A 100% PG juice bites you, they are harsh. 100%Vg is very fluffy feeling, it is almost a cottony soft sensation when you vape it. And a blend of the two allows you to adjust the sensation, and the feeling of the vapor. A high PG juice has a very crips and clean taste, A high VG juice isn't as strong a flavor and has a softer feeling.

They were 18mg nic juices.

I guess I don't know for a fact that there is a higher percentage of PG. The ingredients list includes both PG and VG, I was guessing they were mostly PG because they were so thin. My juices that I know are VG are much, much thicker than these. Although perhaps the use of a lot of alcohol based flavoring makes them so thin? Or maybe they are just cut with water? I guess I should have e-mailed the supplier and asked the exact composition of the juice.

You mention that they use alcohol based flavoring, perhaps this is the issue? Cologne usually has alcohol in it, and perhaps this mixed with the flavoring gives the taste of cologne? Like I said it's not really strong, and not terribly unpleasant, it's just there and it kind of bugs me and my friend.

As far as steeping, I've previously searched the forums about this, and found people saying to simply leave the bottle open for a week or so, leave it closed for a week or so, and someone said to put the bottle in a cup of hot water and leave it alone. Any specific method you think would help with these juices?

As far as the alcohol, if this is the culprit, couldn't I simply evaporate most of the alcohol by putting the open bottle in a little tub of hot water?

Thanks for the replies guys, I appreciate it.

In my humble opinion, PG certainly does have a chemical flavor that I can pick out immediately.
Unfortunately, I have to use a PG based bronchitis inhaler occasionally and from this, I can pick out the PG flavor very quickly.
In my experience, going with a least a 50/50 PG/VG juice kills the chemical taste enough that I don't notice it.
When I first started vaporing, all the prefilled carts I tried had the PG flavor and I hated it.
Luckily I found ECF and learned about filling cartos myself and about VG juice or I would have been back on the cigarettes for sure.
