I can tell you this: There is nothing stopping a site owner from just going in and writing a bunch of reviews for their own stuff. You can't do that on Yelp! or Yahoo! or whatever - because Yelp and Yahoo watch for matching IP's and all kinds of other clues. However, if you go to GoDaddy and buy a domain name... And build your own website there... You can also build your own reviews.
Now-- I'm certainly not saying the reviews are fake. I've never tried that product. I've never used that website. I'm just saying that reviews on a site can be written by the site owner. I'm not saying they are- but there is nobody stopping somebody from posting content on your own site.
I totally agree with everything with the exception of Yelp. They are a shady website at best.
Last year I added my business to Yelp, I had 4 customers write a review (on there own), and every one got "filtered", one would have to see "read filtered reviews" in small print in the corner, note: as being referred to as filtered would discourage anyone. Then you have to enter a code just to view the reviews.
I contacted Yelp, they told me " I had to pay a monthly fee for them to unfilter my reviews".
Then I asked them several times to remove my business from their website, they refuse to do so.
I do have my business on Yellow Pages, they will "filter" if the reviews are from the same IP, but not just because they want you to pay.
I cannot edit or remove the reviews, I can post a business response to reviews (I post a personal respond to each review to thank them).
I also add the reviews to my website, and people know they are real.
But yes, I would not buy from them, the website looks shady, they review their review, you should do a whois and see if they are a fly by night domain, or are registered for some time.
