Smoking causes shortness of breath due to long term, mostly irreversible damage to lungs (COPD).

Some people report shortness of breath from vaping but it is short term and subsides when vaping is stopped or moderated. These people appear to be sensitive in some way to VG, and report a tightness in their chest and other related symptoms. Most people here do not report any shortness of breath (me included) other than the long term damage they accumulated while smoking.

The important point I'm making is to separate chronic problems like COPD from temporary issues you might possibly experience. I'm not aware of any credible reports of long term damage from vaping (other than a few very rare and very suspect claims made here from time to time).

ETA: like anything else, vaping to excess could cause more problems than vaping in moderation...

After 35 years, i quit smoking and started vaping almost a year ago

For me, after 3 to 4 weeks i started to notice i was getting up the hill from my place with much more ease and less breathlessness, and its only gotten better from there.

I can honesty say that its like i have my lungs back, and as ive said on here before i no longer fear lung volume tests at my GP check ups.

Vaping wont suddenly undo all the bad effects of smoking or general ill health though, despite smoking i have always been very active, long walks/treks etc.....now i just do them easier.

As above, apart from rare sensitivities to VG/PG or flavouring, overindulgence would be your only possible way to feel breathless. Im not a cloud chaser, i dont see the point of trying to cram any more vapor into my lungs than smoke when i used to smoke....to add to that i use temperature controlled mods and do not do bonkers watts, as i further believe its completely irrational to want to cram overly warm to downright hot vapor into sometimes decades long damaged lungs.... (ill wait for the usual flaming from the watts/cloud chasers)

Just started vaping as it doesn't seem too bad for your health. However I am not sure whether or not if they cause shortness of breath if used excessively. Excessive smoking does damage the lungs (Just like tobacco and ......... for example) but this is vaping not smoking.

Yes, excessive vaping, especially vg, tends to cause shortness of breath.

Me too, VG. If I go over 50%, I experience a lil "wet lung" issues. PG rips my mouth up though, canker sores, raw palate. I can deal with 70% vg and the small amount of excess moisture I feel. Any higher, and yeah, can almost feel like drowning a bit. But these are TEMPORARY issues, and stop immediately when I cut back on vaping. As opposed to tobacco issues, that can take YEARS after stopping, to resolve, if EVER. Vape on!

Ejuice is water soluble, basically means your body can absorb it pretty damn quick but there has got to be a point where your body can't absorb it at the rate you're vaping (chain vaping a dripper for instance)...

If you are vaping excessively just up your nic, doesn't have to be a lot but just a bit, I vape 5mg right now, if I vape anything lower I vape way way too much..

You mentioned you just started vaping we're you a smoker? if so it could be your body starting to reject the tar, usually happens within the first couple weeks of quitting smoking (not just via vaping).

USA. State: Inebriated.
I've dealt with some chest tightness that I can pretty confidently attribute to vaping.

I found it to be less of a VG/PG issue (changing the ratios didn't change much) and more of me just expanding my diaphragm more than I had been used to, sort of creating a "sore" spot under my ribs. If/when it happens you can suck in your stomach/sorta puff out your chest to relieve some of the pressure.

These days I'm relatively mouth to lung so the issue hasn't cropped up in quite some time.

When I was young I was a wind musician. I had excellent lung capacity. I then smoked for 37 years.
I'm going on five years vaping exclusively and I'm absolutely certain my capacity has returned (good diet and exercise too) to the point where I could sustain long low notes on a contrabass saxophone with ease. If I had one.
